Towards N=1 Super-Yang-Mills on the Lattice

1997

We consider the lattice regularization of N=1 supersymmetric Yang--Mills theory with Wilson fermions. This formulation breaks supersymmetry at any finite lattice spacing; we discuss how Ward identities can be used to define a supersymmetric continuum limit, which coincides with the point where the gluino becomes massless. As a first step towards the understanding of the zero gluino-mass limit, we present results on the quenched low-lying spectrum of SU(2) N=1 Super-Yang--Mills, at $\beta=2.6$ on a $V=16^3 \times 32$ lattice, in the OZI approximation. Our results, in spite of the quenched and OZI approximations, are in remarkable agreement with theoretical predictions in the supersymmetric t…

We therefore questioned the existence and effect of current drought management strategies on the actual impacts and how drought is perceived by relevant stakeholders. Over 700 participants from 28 European countries provided insights into drought hazard and impact perception and current management strategies. The study concludes with an urgent need to collectively combat drought risk via a European macro-level drought governance approach.11. A Coexistence Study of Low-Power Wide-Area Networks based on LoRaWAN and Sigfox

2023

According to IoT Analytics, NB-IoT, LoRaWAN, and Sigfox are today the most popular technologies for low-power wide-area networks (86% of the market), both in terms of end-user adoption as well as ecosystem support. While NB-IoT utilizes licensed bands, LoRaWAN and Sigfox both employ the sub-GHz ISM bands, potentially interfering with each other. In this paper, we present a thorough coexistence study between LoRaWAN and Sigfox, in realistic urban scenarios, with different duty cycles and traffic conditions. The choice of such scenarios and simulation parameters are supported by an in-depth lit-erature review, and simulations are based on the SEAMCAT simulator. The results offer new insights o…

‘Happy amicable co-operation’: mutual aid, anarchism and the image of the bee in the work of Louisa Sarah Bevington

2017

AbstractThe poet and political activist Louisa Sarah Bevington has been largely ignored in accounts of late Victorian literary and cultural history, even though her work presents a singular nexus of scientific, socio-cultural and poetical perspectives. This essay will show how Bevington juxtaposes Social Darwinist interpretations of the theory of evolution, which foreground the idea of human life as a struggle for existence, with the anarcho-communist view proposed by Peter Kropotkin, which foregrounds the human capacity for sympathy and mutual aid as the driving forces in social development. After situating Kropotkin’s ideas within the larger context of anarchist and evolutionist thinking,…

A generalized Degn–Harrison reaction–diffusion system: Asymptotic stability and non-existence results

2021

Abstract In this paper we study the Degn–Harrison system with a generalized reaction term. Once proved the global existence and boundedness of a unique solution, we address the asymptotic behavior of the system. The conditions for the global asymptotic stability of the steady state solution are derived using the appropriate techniques based on the eigen-analysis, the Poincare–Bendixson theorem and the direct Lyapunov method. Numerical simulations are also shown to corroborate the asymptotic stability predictions. Moreover, we determine the constraints on the size of the reactor and the diffusion coefficient such that the system does not admit non-constant positive steady state solutions.

Stackelberg equilibrium with multiple firms and setup costs

2017

Abstract I provide conditions that guarantee that a Stackelberg game with a setup cost and an integer number of identical leaders and followers has an equilibrium in pure strategies. The main feature of the game is that when the marginal follower leaves the market the price jumps up, so that a leader’s payoff is neither continuous nor quasiconcave. To show existence I check that a leader’s value function satisfies the following single crossing condition: When the other leaders produce more the leader never accommodates entry of more followers. If demand is strictly logconcave, and if marginal costs are both non decreasing and not flatter than average costs, then a Stackelberg equilibrium ex…

Short time existence of the classical solution to the fractional mean curvature flow

2019

Abstract We establish short-time existence of the smooth solution to the fractional mean curvature flow when the initial set is bounded and C 1 , 1 -regular. We provide the same result also for the volume preserving fractional mean curvature flow.

Hidden attractor and homoclinic orbit in Lorenz-like system describing convective fluid motion in rotating cavity

2015

Abstract In this paper a Lorenz-like system, describing convective fluid motion in rotating cavity, is considered. It is shown numerically that this system, like the classical Lorenz system, possesses a homoclinic trajectory and a chaotic self-excited attractor. However, for the considered system, unlike the classical Lorenz system, along with self-excited attractor a hidden attractor can be localized. Analytical-numerical localization of hidden attractor is demonstrated.
