Non-standard Problems in an Ordinary Differential Equations Course

International audience; We report first results from a teaching intervention in an ordinary differential equations (ODEs) course for engineering students. Our aim is to challenge traditional approaches to teaching of Existence and Uniqueness Theorems (EUTs) through the design of problems that students cannot solve by applying well-rehearsed techniques or familiar methods. We analyse how the use of nonstandard problems contributes to the development of students' conceptual understanding of EUTs and ODEs.

La presente investigación tiene como finalidad describir cómo la ciudadanía ha contribuido a la elaboración de un Diagnóstico Territorial de Empleo (DET) promovido por la Generalitat Valenciana, previo al diseño de futuras políticas públicas para el fomento del empleo, en tres municipios alicantinos. Se consiguió a través de una Investigación-Acción-Participación (IAP). Shape evolution in even-even N≤126, Z≥82 nuclei

The shape evolution in the neutron-de cient lead, polonium and radium nuclei has been investigated via in-beam and delayed y-ray and conversion electron spectroscopy. The lead isotope 180Pb is found to still exhibit prolate excited structure, related to the known intruder structures in the heavier isotopes. The production cross-section of 180Pb was only 10 nb, one of the lowest ever employed in an in-beam experiment. A candidate for an excited prolate band was found in 192Po, making it the rst polonium isotope for which both oblate and prolate rotational bands have been established. Boundary value problem with integral condition for a Blasius type equation

The steady motion in the boundary layer along a thin flat plate, which is immersed at zero incidence in a uniform stream with constant velocity, can be described in terms of the solution of the differential equation x'''= -xx'', which satisfies the boundary conditions x(0) = x'(0) = 0, x'(∞) = 1. The author investigates the generalized boundary value problem consisting of the nonlinear third-order differential equation x''' = -trx|x|q-1x'' subject to the integral boundary conditions x(0) = x'(0) = 0, x'(∞) = λ∫0ξx(s) ds, where 0 0 is a parameter. Results on the existence and uniqueness of solutions to boundary value problem are established. An illustrative example is provided.
Experimental study of 1/2(+) isomers in At-199,At-201

Using fusion-evaporation reactions, a gas-filled recoil separator, and recoil-electron and recoil-electron-alpha tagging techniques, a new isomeric 1/2(+) state [T-1/2 = 45(3) ms] in At-201 is identified, and an earlier reported corresponding state [T-1/2 = 273(9) ms] in At-199 is confirmed. The 1/2(+) state is suggested to originate from an intruder pi(s(1/2))(-1) configuration. In addition, nuclear structure of states below and above this 1/2(+) state are studied in both nuclei. The isomer decays through a cascade of an E3 transition followed by a mixed M1/E2 transition to the 9/2(-) ground state, and it is interpreted to be fed from nearly spherical 3/2(+) and 5/2(+) states originating f…
Shape coexistence in the neutron-deficient even-even Hg182-188 isotopes studied via Coulomb excitation

Coulomb-excitation experiments to study electromagnetic properties of radioactive even-even Hg isotopes were performed with 2.85 MeV/nucleon mercury beams from REX-ISOLDE. Magnitudes and relative signs of the reduced E2 matrix elements that couple the ground state and low-lying excited states in Hg182-188 were extracted. Information on the deformation of the ground and the first excited 0+ states was deduced using the quadrupole sum rules approach. Results show that the ground state is slightly deformed and of oblate nature, while a larger deformation for the excited 0+ state was noted in Hg182,184.
