Exotic and Primitive Lapland : Othering in The Earth Is a Sinful Song (1973)

This article contributes to postcolonial cultural criticism by analyzing how since the 1920s, Lapland and its residents have been portrayed as exotic Others in Finnish feature films that are set in Lapland. The roots of the othering of Lapland go back to the nationalist aspirations of the Finns. The geographical distance of the northern region has bred mental distance, because of which Lapland has remained a source of exoticism for filmmakers, who almost invariably come from the South. Lapland can be seen as Finland’s spatial and cultural Other, an “internal Other” (Jansson 2003). Search for a Stable Six-Quark State at BABAR

2019

Recent investigations have suggested that the six-quark combination uuddss could be a deeply bound state (S) that has eluded detection so far, and a potential dark matter candidate. We report the first search for a stable, doubly strange six-quark state in Upsilon -> S anti-Lambda anti-Lambda decays based on a sample of 90 million Upsilon(2S) and 110 million Upsilon(3S) decays collected by the BABAR experiment. No signal is observed, and 90% confidence level limits on the combined Upsilon(2S,3S) -> S anti-Lambda anti-Lambda branching fraction in the range (1.2-1.4)x10^-7 are derived for m_S < 2.05 GeV. These bounds set stringent limits on the existence of such exotic particles.

DYNAMICALLY GENERATED RESONANCES IN THE CHIRAL UNITARY APPROACH TO MESON BARYON INTERACTION

In this talk we report on the use of a chiral unitary approach for the interaction of the octets of meson and baryon and the octet of mesons with the decuplet of baryons. Two octets of $J^{\pi}=1/2^-$ baryon states and a singlet are generated dynamically in the first case, resulting in the case of strangeness $S=-1$ in two poles of the scattering matrix close to the nominal $\Lambda(1405)$ resonance. In the second case many resonances are also generated, among them an exotic baryon with S=1 corresponding to a $\Delta K$ resonance. We make suggestions of experiments which could show evidence for the existence of these states.

An increasing threat to local, native freshwater mussels (Unionida)—an ecologically important but globally alarmingly declining group— is the invasion by exotic bivalves. Direct Bounds on Heavy Top-Like Quarks With Standard and Exotic Decays

Heavy vector-like quarks with electric charge $Q=2/3$ (also called \textit{heavy tops}) appear naturally in many extensions of the Standard Model. Although these typically predict the existence of further particles below the TeV scale, direct searches for heavy tops have been performed assuming that they decay only into SM particles. The aim of this paper is to overcome this situation. We consider the most constraining experimental LHC searches for vector-like quarks, including analyses of the 36 fb$^{-1}$ of data collected in the latest run at 13 TeV of center of mass energy, as well as searches sensitive to heavy tops decaying into a new scalar, $S$. A note on Δn ≠ 0 Stark transitions in hydrogenlike atoms

In a gaseous helium or hydrogen target slow muons or antiprotons are captured into orbits with a high principal quantum number (n = 15 to 50) to form (μ− α)+ ions, (pα)+ ions, or (pp) atoms respectively. In the subsequent deexcitation process Stark mixing of the intermediary states plays an important role. The successful Mainz Cascade Model assumed Δn = 0 for the Stark transitions, although formally no such selection rule exists. This note examines the reasons why Δn ≠ 0 Stark transitions play only a negligible role in the deexcitation cascade.

Nuclear charge radii of the tin isotopes from muonic atoms.

The muonic atom 2${\mathit{p}}_{1/2}$-1${\mathit{s}}_{1/2}$ and 2${\mathit{p}}_{3/2}$-1${\mathit{s}}_{1/2}$ transition energies were measured with an experimental accuracy of better than 20 ppm for the isotope chain $^{112,114,116,117,118,119,120,122,124}\mathrm{Sn}$. Precise values for the Barrett equivalent nuclear radii ${\mathit{R}}_{\mathit{k}\mathrm{\ensuremath{\alpha}}}$ and their differences as well as root-mean-square radii were deduced. The \ensuremath{\Delta}N=2 isotope shifts between the even Sn isotopes show a subshell effect at the neutron number N=64.
