Hedonic message or nutritional message: Which one works?
2019
Eating is not just about incorporating foods or nutrients. Eating or feeding is both a symbolic and social act that is part of a family, a history and a society. This is an essential act which contributes to social identity and to alterity, and which is a vector of pleasure and commensality. However, eating becomes a source of worries because of the conflicting messages and unrealistic injunctions broadcasted through paper press and Internet web sites that lead to misunderstandings and confusions in the mind of the eaters. Moreover, the pleasure of eating is demonized and stigmatized in favor of rational messages highlighting the nutritional values of "healthy" foods to be favored. However,…

This paper focuses on raters’ beliefs and views of assessment and the factors influencing their judgments and performance as raters in the National Certificates of Language Proficiency (NCLP) Finnish language test. Data were collected using semi-structured interviews (N=18) and content analysis was used to classify the responses. Findings suggest that raters’ experience and training have positive effects on rater performance and the use of assessment criteria. Experienced raters seem to be more familiar with different language proficiency levels and their view of language is more holistic today than during the first years of their rating experience. There are some external factors and lingu…

In this work, the emotional and cerebral development of the individual is treated as a complex process, within which genetic and experiential factors interact; equal focus is given to these factors as is through the interactions of both that the human brain achieves full maturity. The recent literature on neuroscientific findings has allowed to understand further which are the mechanisms that play the most important role in the human brain. In particular, this recent work has pointed out the importance of precocious experiences of emotional syntonization between the baby and its development partners; the quality of the experiences that such partners will be able to provide will configure no…

Background and purpose: Due to attitudinal and motivational aims in the national curriculum, and to lack of research on adolescents' experiences with physical education (PE) in Norway, the purposes of this study were to (1) attain data on attitudes toward PE and self-determined motivation for PE among a representative sample of adolescents (N = 2010) in middle school (grade 8–10/age 13–15) and high school (grade 11–13/age 16–19) in Norway, and (2) to explore the relationship between involvement in movement activities outside school and self-determined motivation in PE. Findings: The results showed that 43% of the adolescents were not happy with how PE is taught in Norwegian schools, and tha…
