The Abelian Kernel of an Inverse Semigroup

2020

The problem of computing the abelian kernel of a finite semigroup was first solved by Delgado describing an algorithm that decides whether a given element of a finite semigroup S belongs to the abelian kernel. Steinberg extended the result for any variety of abelian groups with decidable membership. In this paper, we used a completely different approach to complete these results by giving an exact description of the abelian kernel of an inverse semigroup. An abelian group that gives this abelian kernel was also constructed.

Topics in calculus and geometry on metric spaces

2022

In this thesis we present an overview of some important known facts related to topology, geometry and calculus on metric spaces. We discuss the well known problem of the existence of a lipschitz equivalent metric to a given quasiultrametric, revisiting known results and counterexamples and providing some new theorems, in an unified approach. Also, in the general setting of a quasi-metric doubling space, suitable partition of unity lemmas allows us to obtain, in step two Carnot groups, the well known Whitney’s extension theorem for a given real function of class C^m defined on a closed subset of the whole space: this result relies on relevant properties of the symmetrized Taylor’s polynomial…

Algorithms for coherence checking and propagation of conditional probability bounds

2001

In this paper, we propose some algorithms for the checking of generalized coherence (g-coherence) and for the extension of imprecise conditional probability assessments. Our concept of g-coherence is a generalization of de Finetti’s coherence principle and is equivalent to the ”avoiding uniform loss” property for lower and upper probabilities (a la Walley). By our algorithms we can check the g-coherence of a given imprecise assessment and we can correct it in order to obtain the associated coherent assessment (in the sense of Walley and Williams). Exploiting some properties of the random gain we show how, in the linear systems involved in our algorithms, we can work with a reduced set of va…

Quasi *-algebras arising from extensions of positive linear functionals

2010

In this paper we show how some known quasi *-algebras can also be obtained through the construction of slight extensions of nonclosable positive linear functionals defined on dense *-subalgebras Ao of given topological *-algebras. Moreover, we consider also, for each of the functionals we present, their absolutely convergent extensions and the GNS *-representations of the quasi *-algebras arising in the process of extension.

Spherical Top Theory and Molecular Spectra

2011

In this article, we present an overview of the present state of the art of the theory of high-resolution spherical-top spectra in the framework of the effective Hamiltonian approach. We describe the specific features of this class of molecules to explain the basic concepts of the theoretical methods used for the analysis (line positions and intensities) and the simulation of absorption (including pure rotation) and Raman spectra of such species. The non conventional formalism that we use is essentially based on irreducible tensor methods and is especially adapted to computational treatments and global analyses of complex interacting band systems. We give examples concerning mainly methane (…

Non-Stationary Probabilistic Response of Linear Systems Under Non-Gaussian Input

1991

The probabilistic characterization of the response of linear systems subjected to non-normal input requires the evaluation of higher order moments than two. In order to obtain the equations governing these moments, in this paper the extension of the Ito’s differential rule for linear systems excited by non-normal delta correlated processes is presented. As an application the case of the delta correlated compound Poisson input process is treated.

Stochastic Response on Non-Linear Systems under Parametric Non-Gaussian Agencies

1992

The probabilistic response characterization of non-linear systems subjected to non-normal delta correlated parametric excitation is obtained. In order to do this an extension of both Ito’s differential rule and the Fokker-Planck equation is presented, enabling one to account for the effect of the non-normal input. The validity of the approach reported here is confirmed by results obtained by means of a Monte Carlo simulation.

Liftings and extensions of operators in Brownian setting

2020

We investigate the operators T on a Hilbert space H which have 2-isometric liftings S with the property S ∗ S H ⊂ H . We show that such liftings are closely related to some extensions of T, which h...

Commutative Partial O*-Algebras

2002

This chapter is devoted to the integrability of commutative partial O*-algebras. Three notions of weak commutativity, commutativity and strong commutativity of an O*-vector space are defined and investigated. In Section 3.1, we analyze the relation between the integrability of weakly commutative O*-vector space M and the commutativity of the von Neumann algebra (M w ′ )′. In Section 3.2, we study the integrable extensions of partial O*-algebras. In Section 3.3, we describe another explicit example, namely, the partial O*-algebra M[S, T] generated by two weakly commuting symmetric operators S and T defined on a common dense domain in a Hilbert space. In particular, we investigate in detail t…
