Gain fractions of future neutrino oscillation facilities over T2K and NOvA

We evaluate the probability of future neutrino oscillation facilities to discover leptonic CP violation and/or measure the neutrino mass hierarchy. We study how this probability is affected by positive or negative hints for these observables to be found at T2K and NO nu A. We consider the following facilities: LBNE; T2HK; and the 10 GeV Neutrino Factory (NF10), and show how their discovery probabilities change with the running time of T2K and NO nu A conditioned to their results. We find that, if after 15 years T2K and NO nu A have not observed a 90% CL hint of CP violation, then LBNE and T2HK have less than a 10% chance of achieving a 5 sigma discovery, whereas NF10 still has a similar to …

Retro-nasal aroma release is correlated with variations in the in-mouth air cavity volume after empty deglutition.

International audience; We hypothesized that interindividual differences in motor activities during chewing and/or swallowing were determining factors for the transfer of volatile aroma from the in-mouth air cavity (IMAC) toward the olfactory mucosa. In our first experiment, we looked for changes in IMAC volume after saliva deglutition in 12 healthy subjects. The mean IMAC volume was measured after empty deglutition using an acoustic pharyngometer device. Based on the time course of the IMAC volume after swallowing, we discerned two groups of subjects. Cell expression of GDAP1 in the nervous system and pathogenesis of Charcot-Marie-Tooth type 4A disease

Abstract Mutations in the mitochondrial protein GDAP1 are the cause of Charcot-Marie-Tooth type 4A disease (CMT4A), a severe form of peripheral neuropathy associated with either demyelinating, axonal or intermediate pheno-types. GDAP1 is located in the outer mitochondrial membrane and it seems that may be related with the mitochondrial network dynamics. Identifying the connectome of adult-generated neurons is essential for understanding how the preexisting circuitry is refined by neurogenesis. Architecture and cell types of the adult subventricular zone: in search of the stem cells.

Neural stem cells are maintained in the subventricular zone (SVZ) of the adult mammalian brain. Here, we review the cellular organization of this germinal layer and propose lineage relationships of the three main cell types found in this area. The majority of cells in the adult SVZ are migrating neuroblasts (type A cells) that continue to proliferate. These cells form an extensive network of tangentially oriented pathways throughout the lateral wall of the lateral ventricle. Type A cells move long distances through this network at high speeds by means of chain migration. Synaptic connectivity of the cholinergic axons in the olfactory bulb of the cynomolgus monkey.

The olfactory bulb (OB) of mammals receives cholinergic afferents from the horizontal limb of the diagonal band of Broca (HDB). At present, the synaptic connectivity of the cholinergic axons on the circuits of the OB has only been investigated in the rat. In this report, we analyze the synaptic connectivity of the cholinergic axons in the OB of the cynomolgus monkey (Macaca fascicularis). Our aim is to investigate whether the cholinergic innervation of the bulbar circuits is phylogenetically conserved between macrosmatic and microsmatic mammals. Mainz/PSI Φ-factory design considerations

Abstract Design considerations for a Φ-factory with a Luminosity of the order of 10 33 cm −2 s −1 lead to the concept of a multi-bunch round beam double storage ring with supercoducting solenoids for micro-beta focusing and beam rotation. Simulations of the beam-beam-interaction indicate, that significantly higher beam-beam-parameters may become possible with round beams. A rough draft design of a round beam Φ-factory is presented.

Measurement ofCP-violating asymmetries inB0→(ρπ)0decays using a time-dependent Dalitz plot analysis

We report on a measurement of CP-violating asymmetries (A{sub CP}) in the Cabibbo-suppressed D{sup 0} {yields} {pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup -} and D{sup 0} {yields} K{sup +}K{sup -} decays reconstructed in a data sample corresponding to 5.9 fb{sup -1} of integrated luminosity collected by the upgraded Collider Detector at Fermilab. We use the strong decay D*{sup +} {yields} D{sup 0}{pi}{sup +} to identify the flavor of the charmed meson at production and exploit CP-conserving strong c{bar c} pair-production in p{bar p} collisions.
