Phenomenological and Experimental Developments in Charm Physics: The WG7 Report from CKM 2016

We present an overview of recent developments in charm physics reported in the Working~Group~7 meetings of the CKM 2016 workshop. Progresses in experimental analysis and techniques were reported by LHCb, Belle, BABAR and BESIII along with projections for the future. Developments were also reported in the phenomenological extraction of both direct and indirect CP violation from data in two-, three- and four-body hadronic decays of the $D$ mesonic system.
Search for Invisible Decays of a Dark Photon Produced in e+e− Collisions at BaBar

We search for single-photon events in 53 fb^{-1} of e^{+}e^{-} collision data collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II B-Factory. We look for events with a single high-energy photon and a large missing momentum and energy, consistent with production of a spin-1 particle A^{'} through the process e^{+}e^{-}→γA^{'}; A^{'}→invisible. Such particles, referred to as "dark photons," are motivated by theories applying a U(1) gauge symmetry to dark matter. We find no evidence for such processes and set 90% confidence level upper limits on the coupling strength of A^{'} to e^{+}e^{-} in the mass range m_{A^{'}}≤8 GeV. Observation ofB¯→D(*) π+π−ℓ−ν¯Decays ine+e−Collisions at theΥ(4S)Resonance

We report on measurements of the decays of B¯ mesons into the semileptonic final states B¯→D^(*)π^(+)π^(-)l^(-)ν¯, where D^(*) represents a D or D^(*) meson and l^(-) is an electron or a muon. These measurements are based on 471×10^(6) BB ¯ pairs recorded with the BABAR detector at the SLAC asymmetric B factory PEP-II. We determine the branching fraction ratios R_{π^{+}π^{-}}^{(*)}=B(B[over ¯]→D^{(*)}π^{+}π^{-}l^{-}ν[over ¯])/B(B[over ¯]→D^{(*)}l^{-}ν[over ¯]) using events in which the second B meson is fully reconstructed. We find R_{π^{+}π^{-}}=0.067±0.010±0.008 and R_{π^{+}π^{-}}^{*}=0.019±0.005±0.004, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. Based on thes…
Corrections to the fluxes of a Neutrino Factory

In view of their physics goals, future neutrino factories from muon decay aim at an overall flux precision of ${\cal O}(1%)$ or better. We analytically study the QED radiative corrections to the neutrino differential distributions from muon decay. Kinematic uncertainties due to the divergence of the muon beam are considered as well. The resulting corrections to the neutrino flux turn out to be of order ${\cal O}(0.1%)$, safely below the required precision.
Measurements ofCP-Violating Asymmetries inB0→Ks0π0Decays

The authors present measurements of CP-violating asymmetries in the decay B{sup 0} {yields} a{sub 1}{sup {+-}}(1260){pi}{sup {-+}} with a{sub 1}{sup {+-}}(1260) {yields} {pi}{sup {-+}}{pi}{sup {+-}}{pi}{sup {+-}}. The data sample corresponds to 384 x 10{sup 6} B{bar B} pairs collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric B-factory at SLAC. Improved measurement of time-dependentCPasymmetries and theCP-odd fraction in the decayB0→D*+D*−

We present an updated measurement of time-dependent CP asymmetries and the CP-odd fraction in the decay B0-->D*+D*- using 232x10(6)BB pairs collected by the BABAR detector at the SLAC PEP-II B factory. We determine the CP-odd fraction to be 0.125+/-0.044(stat)+/-0.007(syst). The time-dependent CP asymmetry parameters C+ and S+ are determined to be 0.06+/-0.17(stat)+/-0.03(syst) and -0.75+/-0.25(stat)+/-0.03(syst), respectively. The standard model predicts these parameters to be 0 and -sin2beta, respectively, in the absence of penguin amplitude contributions.
Constraining models with vector-like fermions from FCNC in K and B physics

In this work, we update the constraints on tree level FCNC couplings in the framework of a theory with n isosinglet vector-like down quarks. In this context, we emphasize the sensitivity of the B -> J/psi K_S CP asymmetry to the presence of new vector-like down quarks. This CP asymmetry, together with the rare decays B -> X_{s,d} l bar{l} and K -> pi nu bar{nu} are the best options to further constrain the FCNC tree level couplings or even to point out, in the near future, the possible presence of vector-like quarks in the low energy spectrum, as suggested by GUT theories or models of large extra dimensions at the TeV scale.

Search for the rare decayB→Kνν¯

We present a search for the rare decays B+→K+νν and B0→K0νν using 459×106 BB pairs collected with the BABAR detector at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. Flavor-changing neutral-current decays such as these are forbidden at tree level but can occur through one-loop diagrams in the standard model (SM), with possible contributions from new physics at the same order. The presence of two neutrinos in the final state makes identification of signal events challenging, so reconstruction in the semileptonic decay channels B→D(*)lν of the B meson recoiling from the signal B is used to suppress backgrounds. We study the ϵ′/ϵ-effects from time integrated coherent decays of the K0 − K0-system in a φ-factory. A complete set of observables is presented. We paid special attention to backgrounds effects coming from the C = + state, both for Re(ϵ′/ϵ) and Im(ϵ′/ϵ).
