Intra-EU Mobility: The Employment and Welfare Experience of Temporary EU Workers in the United Kingdom

This article explores the mobility pathways of temporary EU workers and the implications that transnational temporary mobility has on their labor market outcomes and access to social rights and benefits. The experiences of temporary EU migrants working in the UK show that despite the narrative of the borderlessness of the common European labor market, access to host countries’ labor market and welfare is shaped by their employment status and welfare eligibility criteria that produce worker precariousness. Temporary EU workers’ experiences are characterized by employment insecurity and unequal access to labor and social rights, effects which might increase since the UK has left the EU.

Article published in Photochemistry and Photobiology, 86 (4): 909-919 JUL-AUG 2010 The effect of UV radiation (UVR) on juvenile Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) was assessed by measuring the fatty acid (FA) profiles of muscle, dorsal and ventral skin, and ocular tissues following 4-month long exposures to four different UVR treatments in outdoor rearing tanks. Fish were fed two different diets (Anchovy- and Herring-oil based) that differed in polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) concentrations. Saslimstība ar melanomu Latvijā un pasaulē ir augsta, un tās viens no galvenajiem izraisošajiem iemesliem ir ultravioletā starojuma iedarbība. 2012. gadā Latvijā melanomas pacientu uzskaitē ar pirmo reizi dzīvē diagnosticētu melanomu tika iekļautas 213 personas, kopā melanomas uzskaitē gada beigās bija 1967 personas (Slimību profilakses un kontroles centrs, 2014). Šis darbs dod priekšstatu par ultravioletā starojuma ietekmi un tā izraisīto kaitējumu, iedzīvotāju sauļošanās paradumiem solārijā un saulē, kā arī farmaceitu viedokli par cilvēku informētību šajā jomā. This study examined the role of welfare services in the participative citizenship of young people under 30 years of age outside the labour market. Thematic content analysis of the government’s white papers regarding participation policies, as well as participatory action research projects in two Finnish towns, were used to identify factors that enable or hinder participation for this group of service users.
