Efficient pipeline FFT processors for WLAN MIMO-OFDM systems

2005

The most area-efficient pipeline FFT processors for WLAN MIMO-OFDM systems are presented. It is shown that although the R2/sup 3/SDF architecture is the most area-efficient approach for implementing pipeline FFT processors, RrMDC architectures are more efficient in MIMO-OFDM systems when more than three channels are used.

Diagnosis of mechanical unbalance for double cage induction motor load in time-varying conditions based on motor vibration signature analysis

2013

This paper investigates the detectability of mechanical unbalance in double cage induction motor load using motor vibration signature analysis technique. Rotor imbalances induce specific harmonic components in electrical, electromagnetical, and mechanical quantities. Harmonic components characteristic of this category of rotor faults, issued from vibration signals analysis, are closely related to rotating speed of the rotor, which complicates its detection under non-stationary operating conditions of the motor. Firstly, experimental results were performed first under healthy and mechanical load unbalance cases, for different load levels under steady-state operating conditions to evaluate th…

Suppression law of quantum states in a 3D photonic fast Fourier transform chip

2015

The identification of phenomena able to pinpoint quantum interference is attracting large interest. Indeed, a generalization of the Hong–Ou–Mandel effect valid for any number of photons and optical modes would represent an important leap ahead both from a fundamental perspective and for practical applications, such as certification of photonic quantum devices, whose computational speedup is expected to depend critically on multi-particle interference. Quantum distinctive features have been predicted for many particles injected into multimode interferometers implementing the Fourier transform over the optical modes. Here we develop a scalable approach for the implementation of the fast Fouri…

Periodic Discrete Splines

2014

Periodic discrete splines with different periods and spans were introduced in Sect. 3.4. In this chapter, we discuss families of periodic discrete splines, whose periods and spans are powers of 2. As in the polynomial splines case, the Zak transform is extensively employed. It results in the Discrete Spline Harmonic Analysis (DSHA). Utilization of the Fast Fourier transform (FFT) enables us to implement all the computations in a fast explicit way.

Thermoelastic stress analysis of a 2D stress field using a single detector infrared scanner and lock-in filtering

2009

A low resolution, low cost, fast infrared scanner is used to acquire the temperature change along a line on the surface of cyclically loaded samples. The temperature signal is sampled versus time by exploiting the raster scanning movement of the thermocamera single detector. The temperature data is then post-processed by a Fast Fourier Transform based lock- in algorithm implemented in MATLAB ® , in order to filter out the thermoelastic effect induced temperature change. A procedure is also implemented in order to extend the data sampling time by opportunely synchronising successively grabbed data frames. The effectiveness of such synchronisation procedure is first demonstrated by performing…

Structure and function of the vacuolar Ccc1/VIT1 family of iron transporters and its regulation in fungi

2020

Iron is an essential micronutrient for most living beings since it participates as a redox active cofactor in many biological processes including cellular respiration, lipid biosynthesis, DNA replication and repair, and ribosome biogenesis and recycling. However, when present in excess, iron can participate in Fenton reactions and generate reactive oxygen species that damage cells at the level of proteins, lipids and nucleic acids. Organisms have developed different molecular strategies to protect themselves against the harmful effects of high concentrations of iron. In the case of fungi and plants, detoxification mainly occurs by importing cytosolic iron into the vacuole through the Ccc1/V…

Denoising AVIRIS-NG Data for Generation of New Chlorophyll Indices

2021

The availability of Airborne Visible and Infrared Imaging Spectrometer-Next Generation (AVIRIS-NG) data has enormous possibilities for quantification of Leaf Chlorophyll Content (LCC). The present study used the AVIRIS-NG campaign site of Western India for generation and validation of new chlorophyll indices by denoising the AVIRIS-NG data. For validation, concurrent to AVIRIS-NG flight overpass, field samplings were performed. The acquired AVIRIS-NG was subjected to Spectral Angle Mapper (SAM) classifier for discriminating the crop types. Three smoothing techniques i.e., Fast-Fourier Transform (FFT), Mean and Savitzky-Golay filters were evaluated for their denoising capability. Raw and fil…

A New Fitness Test of Estimating VO2max in Well-Trained Rowing Athletes

2021

BackgroundThis study was designed to investigate the validity of maximal oxygen consumption (VO2max) estimation through the Firstbeat fitness test (FFT) method when using submaximal rowing and running programs for well-trained athletes.MethodsWell-trained flatwater rowers (n = 45, 19.8 ± 3.0 years, 184 ± 8.7 cm, 76 ± 12.9 kg, and 58.7 ± 6.0 mL⋅kg–1⋅min–1) and paddlers (n = 45, 19.0 ± 2.5 years, 180 ± 7.7 cm, 74 ± 9.4 kg, and 59.9 ± 4.8 mL⋅kg–1⋅min–1) completed the FFT and maximal graded exercise test (GXT) programs of rowing and running, respectively. The estimated VO2max was calculated using the FFT system, and the measured VO2max was obtained from the GXT programs. Differences between the…

Wavelet-like bases for thin-wire integral equations in electromagnetics

2005

AbstractIn this paper, wavelets are used in solving, by the method of moments, a modified version of the thin-wire electric field integral equation, in frequency domain. The time domain electromagnetic quantities, are obtained by using the inverse discrete fast Fourier transform. The retarded scalar electric and vector magnetic potentials are employed in order to obtain the integral formulation. The discretized model generated by applying the direct method of moments via point-matching procedure, results in a linear system with a dense matrix which have to be solved for each frequency of the Fourier spectrum of the time domain impressed source. Therefore, orthogonal wavelet-like basis trans…

Unraveling the LiNbO3 X-cut surface by atomic force microscopy and density functional theory

2014

The ${\text{LiNbO}}_{3}$(2$\overline{1}\overline{1}0$) surface, commonly referred to as X-cut, is investigated by means of atomic force microscopy and first-principles calculations. Atomically resolved atomic force microscopy images show geometrical patterns not compatible with truncated bulk terminations. Fast Fourier transformation of the real-space images shows an oblique surface unit cell with lattice parameters of $a=0.75\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.02$ nm, $b=0.54\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.02$ nm, and $\ensuremath{\alpha}=94.{8}^{\ensuremath{\circ}}$. Comparing these experimental results with the theoretical models of stable surface terminations provides clear evidence for the for…
