Information on the macrolepidoptera fauna of “Dumbrava Sibiului” oak forest (Sibiu, Romania)

2015

In order to establish systematic, ecological and ethological studies, it is extremely important to know the composition of faunal species of Lepidoptera collected in the past and present from "Dumbrava Sibiului" Forest located on the outskirts of Sibiu in central Romania. To assess the current state of Lepidoptera species, we conducted a complex research which was carried out for over 13 years, based on our own samples collected: from March to November, but also on the data resulted from studying the species existing in the collections of the Natural History Museum of Sibiu. After the research we have identified a number of 243 species belonging to 14 families collected over time from "Dumb…

An overview of the Ephydridae (Diptera) of Saudi Arabia

2019

Despite the species richness of Ephydridae world-wide (2000 species) and its prominent environmental roles as a minor pest and as a food for wildlife, only 13 species have been recorded from Saudi Arabia. Between 2012 and 2016, a biodiversity study of Diptera was conducted at Jazan, Asir, and Najran in south-western Saudi Arabia, at 22 sites, was performed mainly using Malaise traps and sweep nets. In this study, 43 known species of Ephydridae were identified, 37 of them for the first time from southwestern Saudi Arabia and 16 from Arabian Peninsula. This brings the total number of Ephydridae species in Saudi Arabia to 49 (including previous records). There were a further four species, whic…

The water mites (Acari: Hydrachnidia) of the standing waters of Corsica, Sardinia and Sicily: review and new data

2014

A compilation of our present knowledge of the water mites (Acari: Hydrachnidia) adapted to life in standing waters on the three large islands in the western Mediterranean (Corsica, Sardinia and Sicily) is provided. In addition to published data, this study deals with a rich volume of new material from recent field work, mostly deriving from intermittent ponds and pools, an extremely poorly investigated yet peculiar habitat type in the Mediterranean area. Species richness of water mites reported for the standing waters of the three islands amounts to 91 species. Out of the 47 species for which we present new distributional data, Hydrachna incisa Halbert, 1903, Hydrachna leegei Koenike, 1895,…

Nabrzeżkowate (Heteroptera: Saldidae) Polski – przegląd faunistyczny / Shore bugs (Heteroptera: Saldidae) of Poland – a faunistic review

2022

This paper is a faunistic review of 23 species of the family Saldidae occurring in Poland. The study was based on the original papers relating to the territory of Poland and on materials deposited in several institutions, i.e. University of Opole (UO), Museum and Institute of Zoology, Polish Academy of Sciences, Warsaw (ZMPA), and in Nature Collections of the Faculty of Biology of Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań (ZPUAM). Over 4000 specimens preserved at the institutions mentioned above have been examined, identified, or their previous identifications were verified. All the localities (with their UTM coordinates) for each of the 23 species occurring in Poland are listed in alphabetical …

Damsel bugs (Hemiptera:Heteroptera: Nabidae) of Poland: identification key, distribution and bionomy

2020

Zaprezentowano mapy rozmieszczenia każdego gatunku w Polsce i w Palearktyce. Ponadto przedstawiono dwujęzyczny klucz do identyfikacji zilustrowany wysokiej jakości fotografiami. Omówiono bionomię każdego gatunku. Analiza rozmieszczenia Nabidae w Polsce wskazuje na stosunkowo do…

Chrząszcze (Coleoptera) Suwalskiego Parku Krajobrazowego: monografia

2020

The beetles of the Suwalski Landscape Park (NE Poland) were studied between the years 2006−2013. The park covers an area of 6338 ha. Various field methods were used including sweep netting, dip netting, catching by hand, investigation of potential foraging sites of saproxylic beetles, rearing of cambio- and xylophagous larvae from inhabited material and attracting to artificial light sources. On the basis of our field studies and literature data, 1052 beetle species from 70 families were recorded, of which 715 have not been previously reported in the Park. One species – Variimorda briantea – is new to the Masurian Lake Region. The most numerous families were: rove beetles Staphylinidae (208…

Notes on Shore Flies (Diptera: Ephydridae) from Finland and north-western Russia

2015

The recent checklist of the Ephydridae of Finland by Zatwarnicki and Kahanpää (2014) mentioned 13 ephydrid species as new for Finland without further details. This paper presents detailed records for those species and a few other species of interest. Four species are recorded for the first time from Russia. Trimerina indistincta Krivosheina, 2004 is herein considered as a new junior synonym of Trimerina microchaeta Hendel, 1932, syn. nov.
