Selecting the Kth nearest-neighbour for clutter removal in spatial point processes through segmented regression models

2023

We consider the problem of feature detection, in the presence of clutter in spatial point processes. A previous study addresses the issue of the selection of the best nearest neighbour for clutter removal. We outline a simple workflow to automatically estimate the number of nearest neighbours by means of segmented regression models applied to an entropy measure of cluster separation. The method is suitable for a feature with clutter as two superimposed Poisson processes on any twodimensional space, including linear networks. We present simulations to illustrate the method and an application to the problem of seismic fault detection.

Classification of spatio-temporal point pattern in the presence of clutter using K-th nearest neighbour distances

2019

In a point process spatio-temporal framework, we consider the problem of features detection in the presence of clutters. We extend the methodology of Byers and Raftery (1998) to the spatio-temporal context by considering the properties of the K-th nearest-neighbour distances. We make use of the spatio-temporal distance based on the Euclidean norm where the temporal term is properly weighted. We show the form of the probability distributions of such K-th nearest-neighbour distance. A mixture distribution, whose parameters are estimated with an EM algorithm, is used to classify points into clutters or features. We assess the performance of the proposed approach with a simulation study, togeth…

Performance of Fine-Tuning Convolutional Neural Networks for HEp-2 Image Classification

2020

The search for anti-nucleus antibodies (ANA) represents a fundamental step in the diagnosis of autoimmune diseases. The test considered the gold standard for ANA research is indirect immunofluorescence (IIF). The best substrate for ANA detection is provided by Human Epithelial type 2 (HEp-2) cells. The first phase of HEp-2 type image analysis involves the classification of fluorescence intensity in the positive/negative classes. However, the analysis of IIF images is difficult to perform and particularly dependent on the experience of the immunologist. For this reason, the interest of the scientific community in finding relevant technological solutions to the problem has been high. Deep lea…

Evolution of Cambrian and Early Ordovician arcs in the Kyrgyz North Tianshan: Insights from U-Pb zircon ages and geochemical data

2019

Abstract Geochronological, geochemical, and structural studies of magmatic and metamorphic complexes within the Kyrgyz North Tianshan (NTS) revealed an extensive area of early Palaeozoic magmatism with an age range of 540–475 Ma. During the first episode at 540–510 Ma, magmatism likely occurred in an intraplate setting within the NTS microcontinent and in an oceanic arc setting within the Kyrgyz-Terskey zone in the south. During the second episode at 500–475 Ma, the entire NTS represented an arc system. These two phases of magmatism were separated by an episode of accretionary tectonics of uncertain nature, which led to obduction of ophiolites from the Kyrgyz-Terskey zone onto the microcont…

La remontée du saumon pour le frai dans le fleuve Tornionjoki, suivie au moyen d'un sonar à double faisceau horizontal.

2000

Fixed location split-beam horizontal echosounding was used to assess the size and timing of the Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) spawning run in the River Tornionjoki. Four transducers, two on each river bank, were mounted across the river at the study site 4 km upstream from the river mouth. Net weirs were used on both shores to direct the passage of fish through the acoustic beams. Hydroacoustic monitoring covered 40-50% of the river cross-sectional area. Also test fishing and yearly catch statistics of salmon were used as an indication of the size of the spawning run in the river. Altogether, 7 700, 5 300 and 4 300 salmon-sized targets (target strength, TS ≥ -29 dB) moving upstream were det…

Discrimination between stationary objects by the blind cave fishAnoptichthys jordani (Characidae)

1981

Blind Mexican cave fish were trained to discriminate between grids of vertical bars placed at various distances from each other. Discrimination was possible only if the freely swimming fish was allowed to glide past the grids in close proximity.

ANCAMAN DAN KEPUNAHAN BURUNG MAMBRUK POLOS Goura cristata DI BAGIAN TIMUR KEPALA BURUNG (VOGELKOP) IRIAN JAYA BARAT

2008

The three species of “mambruk” (crowned pidgeons) are endemic to New Guinea (Irian Jaya and the Papua Nugini). The species are listed in CITES as vulnerable. In Indonesia the species are protected by law, but in the field they are still being hunted. There fore, the threat and extinction of the species was observed on five location in the Birds Head Region of Papua. The observation indicated thet there was only are location was the estuary of Warmiseru and Suandei Lagoon where the spesies were relativety observed.

Jenis-Jenis Kima dan Kelimpahannya di Perairan Amdui Distrik Batanta Selatan Kabupaten Raja Ampat

2017

The Use and Abuse of Sea Resources

2017

As a maritime country, the Philippines is a place of high fish consumption. Many coastal villages are populated by fishermen, who are amongst the poorest of working Filipinos. International comparisons show that the Philippine fisheries sector is mostly characterized by small inefficient fishing vessels, while some of the fishing methods are extremely destructive to the resource. Today, fishing moratoriums must be imposed in some areas to allow the reproduction of the fish. Poaching and illegal fisheries, including by foreign vessels, especially from China, plague the most important fisheries areas. Aquaculture has developed to counterbalance the decline of the natural resource, but it has …

Distribution and diversity of fish species exposed to artisanal fishery along the Sudanese Red Sea coast

2019

AbstractThe semi-enclosed Red Sea harbours one of the longest coral-reef ecosystems on the planet. The ≈ 850 km section of the western shore, comprising the coastline of the Red Sea State of the Republic of Sudan, has however been sparsely studied. Sudan’s coral reef fishery provides livelihoods to fishers and business opportunities by means of local and regional trade, however, the knowledge level of the state of the natural resources and the impacts of fisheries are poorly known. Here we report the results from the first three comprehensive fisheries research surveys spanning the entire Sudanese coast in 2012-13, representing a new baseline for the western coast fisheries resources. The s…
