Territorial Connection and Cohesion - The Case of Agrigento Inland Area
2014
The Europe 2020 strategy and the Horizon 2020 program can begin a real path about the role that the city will be able play for a new development. Usually, it is in the cities that are intensifying tangible and intangible social relations and, given that they focused almost 70% of the world population, it is clear that the city must begin to start any development scenario: the problems / opportunities related to the management of natural resources, energy to move. The culture is a «primary factor of urban creativity (...), the city's identity that has its roots the program schedule of history and extends its branches in the future» [4], awaiting a new model of development local self-sustaina…
Exploring land snails’ response to habitat characteristics and their potential as bioindicators of riparian forest quality
2021
Abstract Riparian ecosystems are crucial for landscape-level biodiversity, especially in highly anthropic and agricultural areas. Although the low mobility of snails reduces their dispersal capacity and makes them vulnerable to habitat degradation, they are less commonly used as indicators. We evaluated the potential of land snails as bioindicators of riparian forest quality in central European riparian forests by surveying snail communities in relation to habitat characteristics that characterize its quality. Habitat characteristics were found to affect both snail abundance and species richness. The abundance of snail species increased with the forest continuity, forest width and abundance…
HERPETOFAUNA DI HUTAN DATARAN RENDAH HAYA, MAMBERAMO, PAPUA
2008

During about 19 days field work survey (7-25 February 2008) on the Haya lowland forest area, Mamberamo Papua. Eksploration is the methods used in this study. Reptiles and amphibians were collected by hand on the night and day in several type of habitat (plains, swamp, oxbowlake, stream, creeks and hills). The result showed that 48 species of herpetofauna (21 species frogs, 19 species of lizard, six species of snakes and one species of turtles and crocodile) were found.

Some Climatic Indices for Pinot noir Maturation at a Meteorological Station in Burgundy
2017
This paper deals with relationships between climate and vineyard at a meteorological station in the wine-growing area of Burgundy. Statistical analyses were carried out on data for the 1975-1996 period. Climatic indices for Pinot noir grape harvests were developed for the 1975-1990 period using a composite analysis. These revealed that high spring temperatures, after a dry winter, led to an early date of Pinot noir harvest, whereas low spring temperatures, after a rainy winter, led to a late date of harvest. These indices proved to be accurate for the 1991-1996 period. The date of Pinot noir harvest could be estimated as early as May, before flowering, using these indices and linear regres…
Polymorphism of Amyloid Fibrils and their Complexes with Catalase
2014
Catalase binding to amyloid fibrils has been shown for the Alzheimer’s amyloid-β (Aβ), type 2 diabetes-associated islet amyloid polypeptide (IAPP) and Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease-associated prion protein (PrP). Catalase targets a specific domain with a GAII-like sequence and there are a number of other amyloid fibril-forming proteins that contain related sequences, such as the Parkinson’s associated α-synuclein protein and the Huntington disease protein Huntingtin. Using transmission electron microscopy (TEM) analysis, interactions show specific binding of catalase to some, but not all, fibrillar forms of Aβ, IAPP and PrP fragments, allowing determination of the fibrillar forms that contain a…
Integrated geophysical survey for 3D modelling of a coastal aquifer polluted by seawater
2013
Geophysical surveys are carried out in the coastal area of Petrosino (south-western Sicily) to study the time evolution of seawater contamination of the coastal aquifer, probably increased due to human impact. The overexploitation of the aquifer, due to an intensive agricultural use has affected significantly the natural hydro-geochemical state of the basin. The study is based on a processing and integrated analysis of hydrogeological, geochemical and geophysical data. In particular in the last two years seasonal time-lapse electrical resistivity tomographies (ERT), new TDEM soundings and Multi-Analysis Surface Wave soundings (MASW) have been carried out. The interpretation of the total set…
Geophysical investigations in the Flumendosa River Delta, Sardinia (Italy) — Seismic reflection imaging
2006
A geophysical investigation that included seismic-reflection surveying and time-domain electromagnetics (EM) was carried out in the Flumendosa River Delta plain in southeastern Sardinia, Italy. The objective was to improve knowledge of geologic and hydrogeologic controls on a highly productive aquifer hosted in thick Quaternary deposits and known to be affected by an extensive saltwater intrusion. The seismic reflection survey, whose results are reported here, aimed to image the Paleozoic bedrock topography and to obtain detailed structural and stratigraphic information on the sequence of largely fluvial sediments extending from the surface down to bedrock. The survey consisted of two inli…
Recent Change—River Run-off and Ice Cover
2015
This chapter compiles and assesses information on run-off and discharge from rivers within the Baltic Sea drainage basin. Some information is also available on ice duration on inland waterways. Although decadal and regional variability is large, no significant long-term change has been detected in total river run-off to the Baltic Sea over the past 500 years. A change in the timing of the spring flood has been observed due to changes in the timing of snowmelt . Change in temperature seems to explain change in run-off better than does precipitation. Later start dates for ice formation on waterways, and earlier ice break-up dates have resulted in shorter periods of ice cover.
