Groove is a popular and widely used concept in the field of music. Yet, its precise definition remains elusive. Upon closer inspection, groove appears to be used as an umbrella term with various connotations depending on the musical era, the musical context, and the individual using the term. Our aim in this article was to explore different definitions and connotations of the term groove so as to reach a more detailed understanding of it. Consequently, in an online survey, 88 participants provided free-text descriptions of the term groove. Few intellectual tools exist for characterizing word choice development in primary level writing. The aim of this study was to identify categories for describing the development of word choice in young children’s narrative writings. Such categories may be used to demonstrate how word choice develops within writing practices of primary classrooms. A New Feature Selection Methodology for K-mers Representation of DNA Sequences

DNA sequence decomposition into k-mers and their frequency counting, defines a mapping of a sequence into a numerical space by a numerical feature vector of fixed length. This simple process allows to compare sequences in an alignment free way, using common similarities and distance functions on the numerical codomain of the mapping. The most common used decomposition uses all the substrings of a fixed length k making the codomain of exponential dimension. Preliminary study on the unusual properties in the habitat of Ranunculetum baudotii in Central Europe

Abstract The study examines the patches of the saltwater association Ranunculetum baudotii in a new, atypical site; i.e., located more than 400 km away from the Baltic coastal line. They were found in a karst spring, and were the first locality of the community identified in Poland. The water and sediments within the patches were analyzed chemically in the laboratory, but, conductivity, water temperature and O2 content were measured in the field.
