Many prey species contain defensive chemicals that are described as tasting bitter. Bitter taste perception is therefore assumed to be important when predators are learning about prey defenses. However, it is not known how individuals differ in their response to bitter taste, and how this influences their foraging decisions. We conducted taste perception assays in which wild-caught great tits (Parus major) were given water with increasing concentrations of bitter-tasting chloroquine diphosphate until they showed an aversive response to bitter taste. Slitere National Park in Latvia is home to rich fens with many endangered and threatened plant species. This study aims to address how the hydrological systems affect vegetation biodiversity (cf. Wolejko et al. 2019) in the mire systems of the National Park: the base-rich inter-dune mires and extremely base-rich calcareous fens. Groundwater samples from these areas were collected for measurements of ion composition and natural isotopes of C, H and O. Also, we simulated groundwater flow paths from the highest local topographical point (a nearby sandy plateau) to the sea, and calculated the residence times of these groundwater flows. Tutkimukseni tarkoituksena oli selvittää, millaisia käsityksiä lukion ruotsin kielen opettajilla on ohjauksesta. Tutkimuksessa käytettiin fenomenografista menetelmää, joka keskittyy käsitysten tutkimiseen aineistolähtöisesti. Aineisto kerättiin haastattelemalla kahdeksaa opettajaa neljästä eri lukiosta ja se analysoitiin fenomenografisen analyysimallin mukaisesti keskittyen aineistosta nousevien käsitysten moninaisuuteen haastateltavien yksilöllisten erojen ja yhtäläisyyksien sijasta. Tutkimuksen tarkoituksena oli selvittää maahanmuuttajavanhempien ja heidän kanssa työtä tekevien ammattilaisten kokemuksia maahanmuuttajien vanhemmuuden haasteista ja vanhemmuuden tukemisesta pikkulapsiperheissä. Lisäksi selvitimme maahanmuuttajavanhempien kokemuksia neuvolasta. Suomessa kyseisiä aiheita on tutkittu vähän, joten koimme tärkeäksi tuoda lisää tutkimustietoa saataville. Aineisto kerättiin haastattelemalla kahdeksaa maahanmuuttajavanhempaa sekä kolmea ammattilaista. This study aimed to characterise pressurised hot water (PHW) extracts from nonconventional sources of functional carbohydrates and phenolic compounds in terms of antioxidant capacity, antiviral activity, toxicity, and human erythrocytes’ protection antidiabetic potential. PHW extracts of Norway spruce bark (E1 + E2) and Birch sawdust (E3 + E4) contained mostly galactoglucomannan and glucuronoxylan. In contrast, samples E5 to E9 PHW extracted from Norway spruce, and Scots pine bark are rich sources of phenolic compounds.
