This paper is an illustration of the application of a hermeneutic phenomenological study. The theory of meaning and interpretation, drawing on philosophical hermeneutics and the work of Gadamer and Heidegger, and its alignment with phenomenological thought is presented. The paper explains and aims to make visible how key concerns in relation to the fusion of horizons, hermeneutic understanding, hermeneutic circle and hermeneutic phenomenological attitude were implemented. This paper explicates Husserl’s usage of what he calls “radical Besinnung” in Formale und transzendentale Logik (1929). Husserl introduces radical Besinnung as his method in the introduction to FTL. Radical Besinnung aims at criticizing the practice of formal sciences by means of transcendental phenomenological clarification of its aims and presuppositions. Sense experience and differentiation : Husserl on bodily awareness

This article outlines the basic ingredients of Husserl’s theory of bodily awareness. It first analyses the concepts of hyletic and kinesthetic sensibility, and illustrates the interwovenness and equiprimordiality of Me and not-Me in Husserl’s account. Second, it shows how the concept of the lived body emerges from this complex sensible foundation. Thirdly, it argues that, as the area of intersection between the Me and the not-Me, bodily awareness is the initial locus of differentiation between Me and not-Me: an area where the experiential distinction between the Me and the not-Me is constantly negotiated. peerReviewed
A phenomenological research of democracy education in a Finnish primary-school

This phenomenological research examines democracy education and the conditions contributing to young students’ democratic agency. The dataset includes interview and observation data from a school and educational decision-makers. The findings from the iterative analysis highlight the contradictions between democracy education as an ideal and opportunities for democratic agency. One significant contradiction was the expectation that young pupils should be competent democratic agents before being offered opportunities to act democratically. "Yksin en selviäisi" : lonkan tekonivelleikattujen kokemuksia kotona selviytymisestä

Tämän fenomenologisen pro gradu -tutkielman tarkoituksena oli kuvata ja ymmärtää lonkan tekonivelleikkauksen läpikäyneiden henkilöiden omakohtaisia kokemuksia ja niiden merkityksiä kotona selviytymisestä kolmen kuukauden kuluttua leikkauksesta. Suomessa tehdään vuosittain 7 500 lonkan tekonivelleikkausta ja väestön ikääntyessä leikkausten määrät tulevat lisääntymään. Fysioterapialla on keskeinen osuus lonkan tekonivelleikatun kuntoutusprosessissa. Tämän vuoksi fysioterapian vaikuttavuuden selvittäminen on perusteltua ja tutkimuksissa on tarpeellista ottaa huomioon myös lonkan tekonivelleikkauksen läpikäyneiden henkilöiden omat kokemukset. Abstract The paper aims to capture a form of naturalism that can be found “built-in” in phenomenology, namely the idea to take science or mathematics on its own, without postulating extraneous normative “molds” on it. The paper offers a detailed comparison of Penelope Maddy’s naturalism about mathematics and Husserl’s approach to mathematics in Formal and Transcendental Logic (1929). Kielellisen erityisvaikeuden pedagoginen kuntoutus : opettajien ja vanhempien näkökulma

Tutkimuksen tarkoituksena oli selvittää erityiskoulun kuntouttavia tukitoimia lapselle, jolla on kielellinen erityisvaikeus sekä pedagogisen kuntoutuksen toteutumista koulussa. Tutkimukseen haluttiin opettajien ja vanhempien käsityksiä koulun osuudesta lapsen kokonaiskuntoutuksesta, koska he ovat asiantuntijoita kouluikäisen lapsen kuntoutuksessa. Tutkimusta varten haastateltiin kahden erityiskoulun opettajia ja vanhempia (n=7) koulun kuntouttavista tukitoimista ja lasten kuntoutukselle asetetuista tavoitteista.
