The Experience of Living through the Transition from Adolescence to Adulthood for Young People with Cerebral Palsy

This study explored the lived experience of transition from adolescence to adulthood for young people with cerebral palsy to inform occupational therapy practitioners as to what might promote positive life opportunities. A phenomenological methodology was used with six participants, aged 18 to 25 years with cerebral palsy. The findings are presented in the form of hermeneutic stories and three themes: The storm of uncertainty; time, space and the body, Capsizing in a world of others and, Securing anchorage; being heard and understood. Recommendations include service integration across health, social care and education based on partnership and provision of coordinators. peerReviewed

Between a rock and a hard place : middle managers' ethical decision making and behaviour in the organisational context

This study increases knowledge and understanding of middle managers’ ethical decision-making and behaviour within the context of Finnish higher education. The aim of the research is to develop a new framework for ethical decision-making and behaviour by combining prior theories and empirical knowledge. This dissertation consists of an introductory essay and three articles. The main argument of this research is that through organisations’ socialisation processes, middle managers adopt socially defined managerial roles, which affect their ethical decision-making and ethical conduct. Non-abusing mothers’ agency after disclosure of the child’s extra-familial sexual abuse

This qualitative study analysed the agency of eight non-abusing mothers in the Turkish Cypriot Community after disclosure that their child had been sexually abused by someone outside the family. The aim was to discover how, after disclosure, such mothers act to protect their children in the contexts of their family and community. The data were gathered via semi-structured in-depth interviews and analysed using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA).
