The diversity and abundance of parasites vary widely among populations of the same host species. These infection parameters are, to some extent, determined by characteristics of the host population or of its habitat. Recent studies have supported predictions derived from epidemiological models regarding the influence of host population density: parasite abundance and parasite species richness are expected to increase with increasing host population density, at least for directly transmitted parasites. Le entrate e le rispettive incoronazioni a Palermo di Vittorio Amedeo II di Savoia e Carlo III di Borbone sono state analizzate sotto diversi punti di vista. Tuttavia gli aspetti musicali sono stati finora poco considerati, se non a margine di studi più generali sulla vita musicale palermitana. Chagas Disease Vector Control in a Hyperendemic Setting: The First 11 Years of Intervention in Cochabamba, Bolivia

Background Chagas disease has historically been hyperendemic in the Bolivian Department of Cochabamba. In the early 2000s, an extensive vector control program was implemented; 1.34 million dwelling inspections were conducted to ascertain infestation (2000–2001/2003–2011), with blanket insecticide spraying in 2003–2005 and subsequent survey-spraying cycles targeting residual infestation foci. Here, we assess the effects of this program on dwelling infestation rates (DIRs). Purpose: To assess the usefulness of a dedicated questionnaire for patients with inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) treated with biological drugs for the detection of ocular extraintestinal manifestations (EIMs). IBD can cause extraintestinal symptoms including ocular complaints which are frequently ignored and may be associated with significant morbidity, including blindness. Methods: We developed a questionnaire, named Ocular Manifestations in IBD Screening (OMIS) questionnaire, after agreement between gastroenterologists and ophthalmologists. Se estudió la dinámica poblacional de Thaumetopoea pityocampa (Denis & Schiffermüller, 1775) (Lepidoptera; Notodontidae) en cinco áreas de pinar ubicadas en el norte de la provincia de Valencia (España): Loma Valluenga (Rincón de Ademuz), Los Ances, La Jarilla y Las Umbrías (Los Serranos) y Pla de l’Albercoquer-Corral de Pija (Camp de Túria); la primera y última de estas masas forestales son de origen natural y regeneración espontánea, mientras que el resto son repoblaciones de origen artificial. Background and Aims Long-term experiments could provide valuable information to determine the effects of an agronomic practice on agro-ecosystem productivity and stability. This study evaluated the long-term (18-year) impact of different tillage systems on faba bean (Vicia faba L.) productivity, including weed and broomrape incidence, and N2 fixation. Methods The experiment was carried out on a Vertisol under rainfed Mediterranean conditions. It was set up as a strip plot design. In data visualizations, connecting lines may have various semiotic functions, including the semiotic potential of indicating modality and uncertainty. The goal of this article is to find out how this semiotic potential is realized in current best practices of data visualizations and what conventions exist for the visual manifestations of these functions. This issue is addressed by using a corpus-based approach and a two-level analysis method within a social semiotic framework. Destacamos las repercusiones que este medio está ejerciendo en el mundo de los museos y las galerías que están apostando, en algunos casos, por incorporar estas obras a sus espacios expositivos y al mercado del arte.
