From Fantasy to Magic Realism

1998

Much use has been made of the term ‘magic realism’ to refer to texts which introduce an important ‘imaginary’ dimension into ‘realistic’ evocations of the world. The Cuban Alejo Carpentier has also coined the phrase to real maravilloso (marvellous reality) which he applies to a vision characteristic of Central and South America.

Transitions in the Quasiparticle Picture

2007

In this chapter we deal with electromagnetic and beta-decay transitions in terms of independent quasiparticles. Transition amplitudes are derived for transitions between one-quasiparticle states and between two-quasiparticle states. Derivations and applications are made within the BCS framework, but the expressions for the amplitudes are valid also in the LNBCS description.

AbsoluteE0 andE2 transition rates and collective states in116Sn

1979

AbsoluteE0 andE2 transition rates in116Sn have been measured using several newly developed techniques. ManyE2 transitions are observed to have a collective character withB(E2) values of up to 60 W.u. The presence of deformed excited states in116Sn is discussed in view of the results obtained.

Electromagnetic transition form factors of the Roper resonance in a phenomenological field theory

2014

We analyze the form factors of the electromagnetic nucleon-to-Roper-resonance transition in the framework of a low-energy phenomenological field theory. A systematic power-counting procedure is generated by applying the complex-mass scheme. Within this power counting we calculate the form factors to next-to-next-to-leading order and fit the results to empirical data.

Evidence for three microscopically different kinds ofE1 transition in lead-region nuclei

1988

A survey of electric dipole transition rates, or B(E1) values, is done for lead-region nuclei with 82≦Z≦90 and 112≦N≦134. It is found that the major part of the E1 transitions are hindered by a factor of about 106–107 and these transitions are interpreted to proceed via admixtures of the collective 1− state. A second group, which is generally 10–100 times less hindered and is involving the πi13/2 orbital in the initial states, is suggested to proceed via the allowed πi11/2→πh9/2 admixtures in the wave functions. These two groups are compared to a third newly established category, the α-cluster or IBAp-boson mode, of the so-called vibron model.

Model analysis of the world data on the pion transition form factor

2012

We discuss the impact of recent Belle data on our description of the pion transition form factor based on the assumption that a perturbative formalism and a nonperturbative one can be matched in a physically acceptable manner at a certain hadronic scale $Q_{0}$. We discuss the implications of the different parameters of the model in comparing with world data and conclude that within experimental errors our description remains valid. Thus we can assert that the low $Q^2$ nonperturbative description together with an additional $1/Q^2$ term at the matching scale have a strong influence on the $Q^2$ behavior up to very high values of $Q^2$ .

Analytic estimation of transition between instantaneous eigenstates of quantum two-level system

2018

AbstractTransition amplitudes between instantaneous eigenstates of a quantum two-level system are evaluated analytically on the basis of a new parametrization of its evolution operator, which has recently been proposed to construct exact solutions. In particular, the condition under which the transitions are suppressed is examined analytically. It is shown that the analytic expression of the transition amplitude enables us, not only to confirm the adiabatic theorem, but also to derive the necessary and sufficient condition for quantum two-level system to remain in one of the instantaneous eigenstates.

Political Parties Transition into the Digital Era

2021

This chapter outlines the main dimensions of analysis for assessing how mainstream and new parties are building their digital platforms and transitioning from traditional (offline) organisations into the digital world. So far, most of the academic attention has been focused on the impact of the use of digital technologies on party competition and campaigning, while the intra-organisational dimensions have been significantly under-researched. However, several parties in Europe and around the world, both traditional and digital native, have increasingly used digital technologies such as online platforms for internal decision-making, funding, communication and membership mobilisation. We provi…
