Penser la frontière entre essai et autobiographie à partir de la bande dessinée. Are You My Mother? d'Alison Bechdel
2018
Based on Alison Bechdel's autobiographical essay Are You My Mother?, this article is a discussion on two boundaries of the essay : a generic boundary between essay and autobiography, questioned by the possibility of autobiographical essay, and an intermedial boundary challenged by the development of graphic essays in comics. Are You My Mother? is a self-reflexive autobiographical work which describes the author's discovery of psychoanalysis and deals at the same time with mother-child relationships and the continuity between novel writing, autobiography and psychoanalysis, thus articulating autobiographical material and general thoughts. The book can be described in particular as a consiste…
Counter-Clock World: How Planning Backwards Helps in Moving Forward in Collapsing Environments
2021
Research on corporate decline and turnarounds as well as the strategic use of history have so far remained two separate research fields. We integrate these two fields with a thought experiment, proposing ways in which strategists can work with, and through time in managing and turning around declines. Our thought experiment involves two very different types of analogies: a textual one from Philip K. Dick’s science fiction novels, on the one hand, and a visual one from Einsteinian relativity science, on the other hand. Inspired and informed by these different conceptualizations of the past and time, we develop four forms of backward strategizing to successfully manage a struggling corporatio…
Between Life and Existence. Heidegger’s Aristotelianism and the Question of Animality
2021
This paper starts by investigating the Aristotelian roots of Heidegger’s stance toward animal life from 1924 lecture course “Basic concepts of Aristotelian philosophy” to 1929/30 lecture course “The fundamental concepts of Metaphysics”. In following Aristotle, Heidegger displays the ontological transition from life to existence as grounded to the peculiar linguistic ability of human beings. In doing that, both Heidegger and Aristotle seem to establish a connection between an existential faculty (logos) and the apparently dominant position occupied by our species. On the other side, though, to be endowed with logos means for human beings to be able to de-centre themselves in recognizing the …

The Principle of the Transcendental Deduction. The First Section of the Deduction of the Pure Concepts of the Understanding
2019

This paper considers the transcendental deduction of the categories from a specific point of view: the First Section of the Deduction of the Pure Concepts of the Understanding. In this passage, Kant not only explores the task and the method of the transcendental deduction, in form of the principle of the transcendental deduction, but also implements it. The subsequent section(s) of the deduction proceed(s) to build on the argument, and do(es) so in different ways in the A- and the B-deduction. Accordingly, the principle of the transcendental deduction has a crucial function for the entire deduction because it builds a transition between the first and the following section(s) in whic…

Female Cyborgs, Gender Performance, and Utopian Gaze in Alex Garland’s Ex Machina
2020
The cyborg as a metaphor for cultural encodings of the interaction between humans and technology has been an accepted trope since the publication of Donna Haraway’s “Cyborg Manifesto.” Alex Garland’s 2015 film Ex Machina shares many of its key themes and motifs with earlier science fiction films, from Fritz Lang’s Metropolis to Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner. A first viewing of the film thus suggests an interpretation that focuses on the film’s portrayal of its female cyborgs Ava and Kyoko as another version of the “pleasure model” in the mode of Lang’s Maria or Scott’s Pris. However, it is the tension between Ava’s intelligence and visual attractiveness and her performance of a female gender …
Autenticità
2019
The article intends to synthetically reconstruct a line of development of the Italian narrative contemporary, from the nineties onwards, based on the concept of authenticity, vast and rich in applications in the most disparate fields (juridical, philosophical, artistic). After a brief review of four emblematic cases for the use of authenticity rhetoric (Siti, Moresco, Mozzi, non-fiction), the article offers a brief overview of the narrative of last twenty years. It therefore ends with a reflection on a possible passage from one demystification of authenticity (with autofiction) to its internal amplification contradictory (with non-fiction).
