This paper reports measurements of final-state proton multiplicity, muon and proton kinematics, and their correlations in charged-current pionless neutrino interactions, measured by the T2K ND280 near detector in its plastic scintillator (C$_8$H$_8$) target. The data were taken between years 2010 and 2013, corresponding to approximately 6$\times10^{20}$ protons on target. Thanks to their exploration of the proton kinematics and of kinematic imbalances between the proton and muon kinematics, the results offer a novel probe of the nuclear-medium effects most pertinent to the (sub-)GeV neutrino-nucleus interactions that are used in accelerator-based long-baseline neutrino oscillation measureme…

Twisting and buckling: A new undulation mechanism for artificial swimmers

Among the various locomotion strategies of the animal kingdom, the undulation locomotion is of particular interest for biomimetic applications. In this paper, we present an artificial swimmer set into motion by a new and non-trivial undulation mechanism, based on the twisting and buckling of its body. The swimmer consists of a long cylinder of ferrogel which is polarized transversely and in opposite directions at each extremity. When it is placed on a water film and submitted to a transverse oscillating magnetic field, the worm-like swimmer undulates and swims. Existence and uniqueness of solutions to superdifferential equations

Abstract We state and prove the theorem of existence and uniqueness of solutions to ordinary superdifferential equations on supermanifolds. It is shown that any supervector field, X = X0 + X1, has a unique integral flow, Г: R 1¦1 x (M, AM) → (M, AM), satisfying a given initial condition. A necessary and sufficient condition for this integral flow to yield an R 1¦1-action is obtained: the homogeneous components, X0, and, X1, of the given field must define a Lie superalgebra of dimension (1, 1). Interaction-induced spin polarization in quantum dots.

The electronic states of lateral many electron quantum dots in high magnetic fields are analyzed in terms of energy and spin. In a regime with two Landau levels in the dot, several Coulomb blockade peaks are measured. A zig-zag pattern is found as it is known from the Fock-Darwin spectrum. However, only data from Landau level 0 show the typical spin-induced bimodality, whereas features from Landau level 1 cannot be explained with the Fock-Darwin picture. Instead, by including the interaction effects within spin-density-functional theory a good agreement between experiment and theory is obtained. The absence of bimodality on Landau level 1 is found to be due to strong spin polarization.

Social mechanisms and strategic action fields: The example of the emergence of the European Research Area

The point of departure of this article is Fligstein and McAdam’s A Theory of Fields. It is argued that their theoretical framework would be strengthened by a more systematic focus in social mechanism-based explanations since this would increase understanding of how new strategic action fields (SAFs) emerge. This argument is illustrated by exploring the emergence of the European Research Area (ERA) as a SAF. In identifying social mechanisms the article draws both on Fligstein and McAdam’s studies and on academic capitalism literature. Comparison between dynamic and static measurements of RF electromagnetic fields

In this paper the electromagnetic fields measured in dynamic way and static way are compared. The experimental tests are been carried out using a car, and over that a GPS antenna and a EMC receiver is been installed, equipped with a data treatment software; 6-minutes static measurements and dynamic ones is been carried out. In the selected area for the measurements (called Monte Pellegrino (PA)) there are many radio-TV antennas. An overall description of retinotopic mapping in the cat's visual cortex areas 17, 18, and 19.

Mathematical functions are derived which model the retinotopic mapping in the cat's visual cortical areas 17, 18, and 19. All three mappings are simple modifications of a complex power function with an exponent of 0.43. This function is decomposed so as to give an intermediate stage which is common to all three mappings and can be regarded as a model of the lateral geniculate nucleus mapping. The influence of retinotopic mapping on visual receptive fields was studied. The results show that a dependence of the receptive field properties on the position in the visual field is to be expected.
