Covariant phase-space quantization of the induced 2D gravity
1993
Abstract We study in a parallel way the induced 2D gravity and the Jackiw-Teitelboimmodel on the cylinder from the viewpoint of the covariant description of canonical formalism. We compute explicity thhe symplectic structure of both theories showing that their (reduced) phase spaces are finite-dimensional cotangent bundles. For the Jackiw-Teitelboim model the base space (configuration space) is the space of conjugacy classes of the PSL(2, R ) group. For the induced 2D gravity, and Λ > 0, the (reduced) phase space consist of two (identical) connected components each one isomorphic to the contangent bundle of the space of hyperbolic conjugacy classes of the PSL (2, R ) group, whereas for Λ R …
Experimental evidence for chirality in the odd-A 105Rh
2004
Abstract High-spin states in 105 Rh were populated by the 96 Zr( 13 C, p3n) reaction at beam energies of 51 and 58 MeV, and studied using the EUROBALL IV γ -ray spectrometer and the DIAMANT charged particle array. A pair of nearly degenerate Δ I = 1 three-quasiparticle bands with the same spins and parity have been observed. Comparison of the experimental results with tilted axis cranking calculations confirms the chiral character of the two bands, while arguments based on the excitation of particles within the π g 9 / 2 ν ( h 11 / 2 ) 2 configuration of the yrast band and comparison with the previously observed γ band exclude the other possible interpretations. This is the first experiment…
Maximally aligned states in $^{99}$Ag
2003
Excited states of Ag-99 were populated via the Cr-50 + Ni-58 (261 MeV) reaction using the NORDBALL detector array equipped with charged-particle and neutron. detector systems for reaction channel separation. On the basis of the measured gammagamma-coincidence relations and angular distribution ratios a significantly extended level scheme has been constructed up to E-x similar to 7.8 MeV and I = 35/2. The experimental results were described within the framework of the shell model. Candidates for states fully aligned in the pig(9/2)(-3)nu(d(5/2),g(7/2))(2) valence configuration space were found at 4109 and 6265 keV.
Hyperfine structure studies in the 6s 6p3P2-level of barium
1991
The hfs of the3P2 state of the 6s 6p configuration of atomic barium has been determined for137Ba, applying the collinear fast-beam laser spectroscopy. The data fill the last gap in the experimental information on low lying 6s2, 6s 6p, 6s 5d and 6p 5d configurations of this alcaline earth system. The results are analyzed in terms for the existing semi-empirical modified Breit-Wills theory (MBWT), working with two basic wave functions, as well as by an extension to six-component wave functions of inclusion of configuration interaction. The semi-empirical approaches lead to a consistent description of the different hyperfine structures; they are compared with the results from recent ab initio …
On the evaluation of a certain class of Feynman diagrams in x-space: Sunrise-type topologies at any loop order
2005
We review recently developed new powerful techniques to compute a class of Feynman diagrams at any loop order, known as sunrise-type diagrams. These sunrise-type topologies have many important applications in many different fields of physics and we believe it to be timely to discuss their evaluation from a unified point of view. The method is based on the analysis of the diagrams directly in configuration space which, in the case of the sunrise-type diagrams and diagrams related to them, leads to enormous simplifications as compared to the traditional evaluation of loops in momentum space. We present explicit formulae for their analytical evaluation for arbitrary mass configurations and arb…
First ionization potential of the heaviest actinide lawrencium, element 103
2016
The first ionization potential (IP1 ) of element 103, lawrencium (Lr), has been successfully determined for the first time by using a newly developed method based on a surface ionization process. The measured IP 1 value is 4.9630.08 0.07 eV. This value is the smallest among those of actinide elements and is in excellent agreement with the value of 4.963(15) eV predicted by state-of-the-art relativistic calculations also performed in this work. Our results strongly support that the Lr atom has an electronic configuration of [Rn]7s 2 5f 14 7p 1 1/2 , which is influenced by strong relativistic effects. The present work provides a reliable benchmark for theoretical calculations and also opens t…
Analyzing the enforcement of a high-spin ground state for a metallacrown single-molecule magnet
2016
We have studied element-selective magnetic properties of the hetero- and homometallic metallacrowns $\mathrm{Cu}{(\mathrm{II})}_{2}[12\ensuremath{-}{\mathrm{MC}}_{YN(Shi)}\ensuremath{-}4]$ ($Y=\text{Cu}$, Fe, in short ${\mathrm{CuCu}}_{4}$ and ${\mathrm{CuFe}}_{4}$). These metallacrowns comprise four Fe or Cu ions surrounding a central Cu ion. Using x-ray magnetic circular dichroism we have probed local symmetries, electronic configuration, orbital and spin magnetic moments of the magnetic ions. The ratio between the Cu and Fe moment of $\ensuremath{-}0.11$ is independent of temperature in the range of 15 K to 90 K. The Cu moment shows antiparallel to the Fe moment. For ${\mathrm{CuCu}}_{4}…
Atiyah-Manton Approach to Skyrmion Matter
2002
We propose how to approach, and report on the first results in our effort for, describing nuclear matter starting from the solitonic picture of baryons which is supposed to represent QCD for large number of colors. For this purpose, the instanton-skyrmion connection of Atiyah and Manton is exploited to describe skyrmion matter. We first modify 't Hooft's multi-instanton solution so as to suitably incorporate proper dynamical variables into the skyrmion matter and then by taking these variables as variational parameters, we show that they cover a configuration space sufficient to adequately describe the ground state properties of nuclear matter starting from the skyrmion picture. Our results…
High-precision ab initio calculations of the spectrum of Lr$^+$
2019
The planned measurement of optical resonances in singly-ionised lawrencium (Z = 103) requires accurate theoretical predictions to narrow the search window. We present high-precision, ab initio calculations of the electronic spectra of Lr$^+$ and its lighter homologue lutetium (Z = 71). We have employed the state-of-the-art relativistic Fock space coupled cluster approach and the AMBiT CI+MBPT code to calculate atomic energy levels, g-factors, and transition amplitudes and branching-ratios. Our calculations are in close agreement with experimentally measured energy levels and transition strengths for the homologue Lu$^+$ , and are well-converged for Lr$^+$ , where we expect a similar level o…
Regular packings on periodic lattices.
2011
We investigate the problem of packing identical hard objects on regular lattices in d dimensions. Restricting configuration space to parallel alignment of the objects, we study the densest packing at a given aspect ratio X. For rectangles and ellipses on the square lattice as well as for biaxial ellipsoids on a simple cubic lattice, we calculate the maximum packing fraction \phi_d(X). It is proved to be continuous with an infinite number of singular points X^{\rm min}_\nu, X^{\rm max}_\nu, \nu=0, \pm 1, \pm 2,... In two dimensions, all maxima have the same height, whereas there is a unique global maximum for the case of ellipsoids. The form of \phi_d(X) is discussed in the context of geomet…
