A Model of Comprehensive Unification

Comprehensive – that is, gauge and family – unification using spinors has many attractive features, but it has been challenged to explain chirality. Here, by combining an orbifold construction with more traditional ideas, we address that difficulty. Our candidate model features three chiral families and leads to an acceptable result for quantitative unification of couplings. A potential target for accelerator and astronomical searches emerges.

Set of sum rules for anomalous gauge boson couplings

The dependence of the differential cross-section for on-shell W-pair production on the anomalous trilinear gauge couplings invariant under C and P is examined. It is shown that the contributions of the anomalous magnetic moments of the W boson due to the photon and the Z can be individually projected out by means of two appropriately constructed polynomials. The remaining four anomalous couplings are shown to satisfy a set of model-independent sum rules. Specific models which predict special relations among the anomalous couplings are then studied; in particular, the composite model of Brodsky and Hiller, and the linear and non-linear effective Lagrangian approaches. Hefty MSSM-like light Higgs in extended gauge models

It is well known that in the MSSM the lightest neutral Higgs h^0 must be, at the tree level, lighter than the Z boson and that the loop corrections shift this stringent upper bound up to about 130 GeV. Extending the MSSM gauge group in a suitable way, the new Higgs sector dynamics can push the tree-level mass of h^0 well above the tree-level MSSM limit if it couples to the new gauge sector. This effect is further pronounced at the loop level and h^0 masses in the 140 GeV ballpark can be reached easily. We exemplify this for a sample setting with a low-scale U(1)_R x U(1)_B-L gauge symmetry in which neutrino masses can be implemented via the inverse seesaw mechanism.
B-L-violating masses in softly broken supersymmetry

We prove a general low-energy theorem establishing a generic relation between the neutrino Majorana mass and the superpartner sneutrino B-L-violating "Majorana"-like mass term. The theorem states that, if one of these two quantities is non-zero the other one is also non-zero and, vice versa, if one of them vanishes the other vanishes, too. The theorem is a consequence of the underlying supersymmetry (SUSY) and valid for any realistic gauge model with weak scale softly broken SUSY.
CP-violation with bosons

We formulate the conditions under which a purely bosonic theory (without fermions) containing neutral spin-0 particles and vector (gauge) bosons violates the CP-symmetry through the presence of CP-even and CP-odd operators in the Lagrangian. This is done without reference to explicitly CP-violating scalar sector of extended standard models (SM) with two or more Higgs doublets. The Lagrangian expressed in the mass basis of the spin-0 fields can, however, in certain cirumstances be identified with a part of the CP-violating SM with two Higgs doublets. Neutral heavy lepton signatures at the Z0 peak

Abstract Gauge singlet Neutral Heavy Leptons (NHL) arise in many extensions of the standard electroweak theory such as superstring inspired models and their existence may be related to the observed smallness of the neutrino masses. Existing limits on such particles are still fairly poor. A brief discussion is given of the signatures arising from their production through Z 0 → N + ν or Z 0 → N + ν and their subsequent decays within different models. Gauge fields, hidden local symmetries, and meson exchange currents

Abstract The model dependence of the electromagnetic isovector meson exchange current (MEC) operator at higher momentums transfer is studied. For this purpose, the MEC operator constructed from a Lagrangian of the πϱa 1 system obtained within the framework of the hidden local symmetries (HLS) approach is compared with the analogous operator derived earlier from a minimal Yang-Mills (YM) Lagrangian. Numerical results for the deuteron disintegration near threshold show that the model dependent part of the exchange current modifies the tail of the cross section sensibly and that the presence of the a 1 meson both in the MEC and in the nuclear interaction provides a consistent description of th…

In quantum electrodynamics with fermions f = e,\mu..., knowledge of the vacuum polarization spectral function determined from the tree level e^+e^- -> f^+f^- cross sections, together with a single low energy measurement of the fine structure constant \alpha, enables the construction of the one-loop effective charge \alpha_eff(q^2) for all q^2. Search for anomalous quarticWWγγcouplings in dielectron and missing energy final states inpp¯collisions ats=1.96 TeV

We present a search for anomalous components of the quartic gauge boson coupling WW gamma gamma in events with an electron, a positron and missing transverse energy. The analyzed data correspond to 9.7 fb(-1) of integrated luminosity collected by the D0 detector in p (p) over bar collisions at root s 1.96 TeV. The presence of anomalous quartic gauge couplings would manifest itself as an excess of boosted WW events. No such excess is found in the data, and we set the most stringent limits to date on the anomalous coupling parameters a(0)(W) and a(C)(W).
