Social media are an important growth opportunity for firms, especially small‐sized ones operating in peripheral and lagging regions. In this paper, we investigate not only whether firms are able to take this opportunity, but also if they are able to face the challenge of adopting social media at a professional level to obtain a significant economic impact, measured in terms of exporting activities. Exploring the Italian case, our empirical study indicates that smaller firms in lagging areas are more likely to adopt social media but at the same time less likely to use them at a professional level. We explore the entrepreneurial growth behavior in the context of family farm firms by focusing on the role of pluriactivity. En utilisant un échantillon de données issu du SBF 120 sur la période 2004-2009, nous étudions en particulier : (i) la relation entre le montant des stock-options attribuées aux dirigeants et l’actionnariat salarié ; (ii) la relation entre le rapport du montant des stock-options sur la rémunération totale des dirigeants et l’actionnariat salarié. Founding-family-controlled firms, intergenerational succession, and firm value

Using a unique, hand-collected data sample and panel-data econometric techniques, we analyse the impact of founding-family control and intergenerational succession on the value of Chilean listed companies. After controlling for firm- and ownership-specific characteristics, we find an inverse U-shaped relationship between a founding family’s degree of ownership and firm value. Hence, family ownership at first increases firm value. However, when family ownership exceeds a threshold of about 38 percent of outstanding shares, the family takes advantage of its power in the firm and extracts wealth from minority shareholders.
