The Leonian Stage (early Middle Cambrian): a unit for Cambrian correlation in the Mediterranean subprovince

1999

The Leonian (early Middle Cambrian) regional Stage of Iberia is revised from a lithostratigraphic and biostratigraphic point of view in order to propose it as a chronostratigraphic unit for the Mediterranean subprovince (outcrops in Spain, France, Italy, Germany, Morocco and Turkey). This revision now permits a correlation of the Leonian Stage with the other early Middle Cambrian regional Stages. For this correlation the first appearance datum (FAD) of Eoparadoxides mureroensis, Macannaia spp., Schistocephalus antiquus and Oryctocara granulata are employed for the lower boundary; while the FADs of Badulesia tenera, Ctenocephalus (Hartella) spp., Parasolenopleura aculeata and Triplagnostus g…

Measuring the Spatial Dispersion of Evolutionary Search Processes: Application to Walksat

2002

In this paper, we propose a simple and efficient method for measuring the spatial dispersion of a set of points in a metric space. This method allows the quantifying of the population diversity in genetic algorithms. It can also be used to measure the spatial dispersion of any local search process during a specified time interval. We then use this method to study the way Walksat explores its search space, showing that the search for a solution often includes several stages of intensification and diversification.

From High-Throughput Microarray-Based Screening to Clinical Application: The Development of a Second Generation Multigene Test for Breast Cancer Prog…

2013

Several multigene tests have been developed for breast cancer patients to predict the individual risk of recurrence. Most of the first generation tests rely on proliferation-associated genes and are commonly carried out in central reference laboratories. Here, we describe the development of a second generation multigene assay, the EndoPredict test, a prognostic multigene expression test for estrogen receptor (ER) positive, human epidermal growth factor receptor (HER2) negative (ER+/HER2−) breast cancer patients. The EndoPredict gene signature was initially established in a large high-throughput microarray-based screening study. The key steps for biomarker identification are discussed in det…

Prices and Pareto optima

2006

We provide necessary conditions for Pareto optimum in economies where tastes or technologies may be nonconvex, nonsmooth, and affected by externalities. Firms can pursue own objectives, much like the consumers. Infinite-dimensional commodity spaces are accommodated. Public goods and material balances are accounted for as special instances of linear restrictions.

La primera clase de créditos en el procedimiento concursal de reorganización judicial en Chile: ¿la gran ausente?

2017

The new Chilean bankruptcy law, No. 20,720 (D.O. of January 9, 2014), omitsexpressly referring to the credits of the first class in the judicial reorganizationprocedure of the debtor company. This omission has been understoodby a sector of the doctrine and even by the Superintendence of Insolvencyand Re-entrepreneurship as synonymous with the exclusion of said credits, which therefore would not be “reorganizable”. This work aims to raise and justify the opposite conclusion, with a view to overcomingone of the main obstacles that is currently facing this procedure, in its sphereof practical implementation and in view of its economic viability for the proponentdebtor. The research methods used…

Adaptive Multi-agent System Based on Wasp-Like Behaviour for the Virtual Learning Game Sotirios

2018

The aim of this paper is to propose a model for an adaptive multi-agent system based on wasp-like behaviour for dynamic allocation of puzzles and quests in the virtual learning game SOTIRIOS. This is a digital learning game integrated inside a First Person Shooter designed by the second author of this paper. The learning process is based on many puzzles hidden in the game flow. The multi-agent system is necessary to integrate a multiplayer mode into the game. The agents use wasp task allocation behaviour, combined with a model of wasp dominance hierarchy in order to create a unique multiplayer learning system, where each user has a different learning curve, based on his results. The wasp be…

A TDDFT-based Study on the Proton-DNA Collision

2019

The interaction of heavy charged particles with DNA is of interest for several areas, from hadrontherapy to aero-space industry. In this paper, a TD-DFT study on the interaction of a 4 keV proton with an isolated DNA base pair was carried out. Ehrenfest dynamics was used to study the evolution of the system during and after the proton impact up to about 193 fs. This time was long enough to observe the dissociation of the target, which occurs between 80-100 fs. The effect of base pair linking to the DNA double helix was emulated by fixing the four O3' atoms responsible for the attachment. The base pair tends to dissociate into its main components, namely the phosphate groups, sugars and nitr…

Use of cone-beam computed tomography to evaluate root and canal morphology of mandibular first and second molars in Turkish individuals

2013

Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the root and canal morphology of mandibular first and second molars in a Turkish population by using cone beam computed tomography (CBCT). Study design: CBCT images of mandibular first (n = 823) and second molar (n = 925) teeth from 605 Turkish patients were analyzed. The root canal configurations were classified according to the method of Vertucci. Results: The majority of mandibular molars (95.8% of first molars, 85.4% of second molars) had two separate roots; however, three roots were identified in 2.06% of first molars and 3.45% of second molars. C-shaped canals occurred 0.85% of first molars and 4.1% of second molars. Three canals wer…

Retrospective analysis of impacted first and second permanent molars in the turkish population : a multicenter study

2010

WOS: 000298087100003 PubMed: 21196844 Objectives: The purpose of the present study was to retrospectively analyze 170 case series of patients with 200 impacted first and second permanent molars. Study Design: Records of 104.408 patients were retrospectively screened in this multicenter study. The chosen study population consists of 170 patients who presented with impacted or retained first and second permanent molar. All patients with impacted first or second permanent molar had undergone clinical and radiographic examinations. The following factors were analyzed: age and gender, frequency, distribution, location, position, the number of impacted tooth, primary and secondary retention, degr…
