First online operation of TRIGA-TRAP
2020
Abstract We report on the successful coupling of the Penning-trap mass spectrometry setup TRIGA-TRAP to the research reactor TRIGA Mainz. This offers the possibility to perform direct high-precision mass measurements of short-lived nuclei produced in neutron-induced fission of a 235 U target located near the reactor core. An aerosol-based gas-jet system is used for efficient transport of short-lived neutron-rich nuclei from the target chamber to a surface ion source. In conjunction with new ion optics and extended beam monitoring capabilities, the experimental setup has been fully commissioned. The design of the surface ion source, efficiency studies and first results are presented.
Fission fragment angular distributions in the capture reactions 50Ti, 56Fe + 208Pb
2008
The analysis of %-ray mult ip l ic i t ies measured I in coincidence with capture fission events in reactions of 26Mg through 54Cr, 58Fe, and 64Ni with 208pb in terms of Ko and~eff revealed1 that the resulting values of ~ /~e f f were rather independent of for a given system and, in a compound nucleus picture, were more in agreement with the 'shape of the non-rotating saddle than with the actually expected rotating saddle I f non-compound systenmhave to be considered these values of ~/J~ff__ shapes. suggested at least that the captured systems near the turning point from the inward radial motion to symmetric fragmentation had reached a remarkable compactness.
Promptγ-ray spectroscopy of the neutron-rich124Cd
2013
Prompt γ -ray spectroscopy of neutron-rich cadmium isotopes has been performed. The nuclei of interest have been populated via a 25-MeV, proton-induced fission of the 238 U thick target and prompt γ -rays measured using the multi-detector HPGe array JUROGAM II. New high-spin decays have been observed and placed in the level scheme using triple coincidence gates. The experimental results are compared to shell-model calculations and show good agreement.

Competition of fission with the population of the yrast superdeformed band in $^{194}$Pb
1999
The 194Pb yrast superdeformed band has been populated in two reactions induced by two different beams delivered by the JYFL cyclotron. These two reactions differ in the asymmetry ratio (i.e. the ratio of the target mass over the projectile one) by more than a factor 3. For the first time, a superdeformed band of the A≈190 mass region has been populated using such a very heavy beam, namely 74Ge.
Study of Intermediate-spin States of $^{98}$Y
2015
The nuclear structure of the odd–odd nucleus 98Y has been re-investigated by observing prompt γ rays emitted following the proton-induced fission of a 238U target, using the JUROGAM-II multidetector array. New highspin decays have been observed and placed in the level schemes using triple coincidences. The experimental level energies and γ-decay patterns are compared to GICM and QPRM calculations, assuming that this neutronrich N = 59 isotone is spherical at low energies and prolate deformed at intermediate spins. Doubly Magic NucleusHs162108270
2006
Theoretical calculations predict $^{270}\mathrm{Hs}$ ($Z=108$, $N=162$) to be a doubly magic deformed nucleus, decaying mainly by $\ensuremath{\alpha}$-particle emission. In this work, based on a rapid chemical isolation of Hs isotopes produced in the $^{26}\mathrm{Mg}+^{248}\mathrm{Cm}$ reaction, we observed 15 genetically linked nuclear decay chains. Four chains were attributed to the new nuclide $^{270}\mathrm{Hs}$, which decays by $\ensuremath{\alpha}$-particle emission with ${Q}_{\ensuremath{\alpha}}=9.02\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.03\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{MeV}$ to $^{266}\mathrm{Sg}$ which undergoes spontaneous fission with a half-life of ${444}_{\ensuremath{-}148}^{+444}\text{ }\t…
Level structure of ^100Nb
2000
Levels in the odd-odd nucleus ${}^{100}\mathrm{Nb}$ situated at the edge of a region of especially fast shape transitions have been calculated in the framework of the interacting boson fermion fermion model. Levels observed in decay studies can be interpreted in a spherical basis. Low-lying ${I}^{\ensuremath{\pi}}{=8}^{+}$ and ${10}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ states are predicted. Their relationship with the unplaced levels populated with a $12 \ensuremath{\mu}\mathrm{s}$ delay after fission is discussed.
