The radial forearm free flap has been popular in many areas of reconstructive surgery. Despite the many attributes of this flap in maxillofacial reconstruction, one of the disadvantages has been the morbidity of the donor site. Allogeneic cultured epidermis has been successfully applied on large second degree burns and on chronic leg ulcers. Autologous human keratinocytes and fibroblast equivalents can be cultured in-vitro from a small skin sample in order to produce a sufficient amount of epithelial autografts to cover the large defects of third-degree burn wounds. Based on the experience acquired using the depressor anguli oris flap for lateral lower lip reconstruction, the authors in this paper present their own technique to reconstruct large deficits of the lower lateral lip, involving the commissure and the mental region, by means of a platysma muscle cutaneous flap with a triangular skin island. The flap is oriented in the mandibular cheek region. The skin and the platysma muscle fibers, which run vertically, are incised and turned 90 degrees, so the edges of the platysma fibers are sutured to the edge of the residual orbicularis. Urethrocutaneous fistula repair after hypospadias surgery

To evaluate and compare the success rates of simple and layered repairs of urethrocutaneous fistulae after hypospadias repair.The charts of 72 children who developed fistulae after hypospadias repair were reviewed; 39 had a simple closure of the fistula, whereas 32 had a 'pants over vest' repair, in all cases after excluding an impairment of urine outflow.The success rate at the first attempt was 74% for simple closure and 94% for the layered repair; at the second attempt it was 80% and 100%, the difference being statistically significant for both repairs.Although probably far from an optimal technique for repairing urethrocutaneous fistulae, the pants-over-vest repair allows a good success…

Purpose A simple needling procedure is the standard method for restoring the function of an encapsulated bleb after trabeculectomy. However, postoperative hypotony represents a possible hazard. This study describes a new surgical approach for treating encapsulated blebs with reduced risk of early postoperative hypotony: bleb needling combined with transconjunctival sutures tightening the scleral flap directly. Objectif: L'objectif de cette etude etait de comparer cliniquement le traitement de lesions intra-osseuses profondes avec xenogreffe d'origine bovine (BDX) associe a une membrane collagene bioresorbable pour acceder a la chirurgie a lambeau. Methode: Vingt-huit malades souffrant de parodontite chronique, chacun montrant une lesion intra-osseuse ont ete traites au hasard au BDX+membrane collagene (essai) ou avec chirurgie a lambeau (controle). Les mesures des tissus mous ont ete prises au depart et 1 an apres la therapie. Resultats: Aucune difference dans aucun des parametres etudies n'a ete observee au depart entre les deux groupes.
