Flexibility of TTF. a theoretical study

1999

Abstract The folding of tetrathiafulvalene along the S···S axes has been investigated using highly-accurate quantum-chemical calculations. A very flat, two-fold potential is found for neutral TTF where minima correspond to boat conformations (θ ≈ 15–20 °). The flatness of the folding potential indicates that TTF is conformationally more flexible than usually thought.

Network Physiology of Cortico–Muscular Interactions

2020

Skeletal muscle activity is continuously modulated across physiologic states to provide coordination, flexibility and responsiveness to body tasks and external inputs. Despite the central role the muscular system plays in facilitating vital body functions, the network of brain-muscle interactions required to control hundreds of muscles and synchronize their activation in relation to distinct physiologic states has not been investigated. Recent approaches have focused on general associations between individual brain rhythms and muscle activation during movement tasks. However, the specific forms of coupling, the functional network of cortico-muscular coordination, and how network structure a…

Influence of mechanical properties of the sheet material on formability in single point incremental forming

2004

Abstract New trends in sheet metal forming are rapidly developing and several new forming processes have been proposed to accomplish the goals of flexibility and cost reduction. Among them single point incremental forming operations, in which the final shape of the component is obtained by the relative movement of a simple and small punch with respect to the blank, appear quite promising. In the paper, material formability issues in incremental forming were studied. Some relevant correlations among material formability and other mechanical properties of the material were analysed. The FLD 0 value, i.e. the major strain at fracture in plane strain conditions, was determined for different mat…

Structural flexibility of bis(phenoxyimine) titanium complexes in the early stages of olefin polymerization process: a DFT study

2010

The behaviors of three structurally similar salan- and phenoxyimine-based catalysts activated by perfluorophenylborate were compared in the early stages of ethylene polymerization. It was found that moderate modification of the ligand structure can dramatically reduce the interactions between the cationic active site and the counteranion and, as a result, decrease the theoretically calculated upper bound to the ion separation barrier from 15 to 2 kcal/mol. The interactions between the ions in the ion pair have further repercussions on the structure of the active sites (octahedral vs square pyramid), transition states and thus the insertion barriers.

Lumbar Disc Degeneration and Sagittal Flexibility

1996

It is uncertain whether intervertebral disc degeneration is associated with reduced or increased flexibility, although lumbar flexibility is known to reduce with advancing age. This cross-sectional study of 214 middle-aged men attempted to determine the influence on lumbar sagittal flexibility from intervertebral disc degeneration parameters measured from magnetic resonance images (disc height, signal intensity, bulging, osteophytes). Multivariate analyses showed that a reduced extent of lumbar flexibility could be accounted for by the combined effect of decreasing disc height together with increasing age, weight, and back pain frequency. Although it remains possible that single degenerate …

Design of Magnetic Coordination Polymers Built from Polyoxalamide Ligands: A Thirty Year Story

2018

International audience; The aim of this review is to pay tribute to the legacy of O. Kahn. Kahn's credo was to synthesize magnetic compounds with predictable structure and magnetic properties. This is illustrated herein with results obtained by Kahn's group during his Orsay period thirty years ago, but also on the basis of our recent results on the synthesis of coordination polymers with oxamate ligands. The first part of this review is devoted to a short description of the necessary knowledge in physics and theoretical chemistry that Kahn and his group have used to select oxamate ligands, the complex‐as‐ligand strategy and the synthesis of heterobimetallic systems. Then, we describe the st…

Intelligent Cloud Storage Management for Layered Tiers

2018

Today, the cloud offers a large array of possibilities for storage, with this flexibility comes also complexity. This complexity stems from the variety of storage mediums, such as, blob storage or NoSQL tables, and also from the different cost tiers within these systems. A strategic thinking to navigate this complex cloud storage landscape is important, not only for cost saving but also for prioritizing information, this prioritization has wider implications in other domains such as the Big Data realm, especially for governance and efficiency. In this paper we propose a strategy centered around probabilistic graphical model (PGM), this heuristic oriented management and organizational strate…

Robotic assistance for industrial sanding with a smooth approach to the surface and boundary constraints

2021

[EN] Surface treatment operations, such as sanding, deburring, finishing, grinding, polishing, etc. are progressively becoming more automated using robotic systems. However, previous research in this field used a completely automatic operation of the robot system or considered a low degree of human-robot interaction. Therefore, to overcome this issue, this work develops a truly synergistic cooperation between the human operator and the robot system to get the best from both. In particular, in the application developed in this work the human operator provides flexibility, guiding the tool of the robot system to treat arbitrary regions of the workpiece surface; while the robot system provides…

UML/OCL-based modeling of work-based access control policies for collaborative healthcare systems

2016

A work-based access control (WBAC) model is proposed by introducing the team role concept and modifying the user-role assignment model from a previous work. The main goals of WBAC are flexibility, easy manageability, security, as well as suitability to support cooperative work of dynamic teams in healthcare environments. One of the major challenges of WBAC regards authorization constraints in terms of organizational policies. In this article, we show how Unified Modeling Language (UML) and Object Constraints Language (OCL) are utilized to design and analyze the authorization constraints of WBAC in cooperative engagements with complex scenarios in the collaborative healthcare domain. We also…

Strictness vs. flexibility: Simulation-based recognition of strategies and its success in soccer

2021

Abstract Introduction: Recognition and optimization of strategies in sport games is difficult in particular in case of team games, where a number of players are acting “independently” of each other. One way to improve the situation is to cluster the teams into a small number of tactical groups and to analyze the interaction of those groups. The aim of the study is the evaluation of the applicability of SOCCER© simulation in professional soccer by analyzing and simulation of the tactical group interaction. Methods: The players’ positions of tactical groups in soccer can be mapped to formation-patterns and then reflect strategic behaviour and interaction. Based on this information, Monte Carl…
