Experimental neutron capture data of 58Ni from the CERN n_TOF facility
2014
The $^{58}$Ni $(n,\gamma)$ cross section has been measured at the neutron time of flight facility n_TOF at CERN, in the energy range from 27 meV up to 400 keV. In total, 51 resonances have been analyzed up to 122 keV. Maxwellian averaged cross sections (MACS) have been calculated for stellar temperatures of kT$=$5-100 keV with uncertainties of less than 6%, showing fair agreement with recent experimental and evaluated data up to kT = 50 keV. The MACS extracted in the present work at 30 keV is 34.2$\pm$0.6$_\mathrm{stat}\pm$1.8$_\mathrm{sys}$ mb, in agreement with latest results and evaluations, but 12% lower relative to the recent KADoNIS compilation of astrophysical cross sections. When in…
A Method for Measurements of the Total 2H(γ,π−)PP Cross Sections at Threshold
1979
In recent years measurements of the total cross section for the reactions 2H(γ,π+ nn) and 2H(γ,π0)2H close to the production threshold were performed1. For the 2H(γ,π−)pp reaction data of similar good quality doesn’t exist. In this paper a method is prescribed and the feasibility for the reaction 2H(γ,π−)pp is demonstrated. Figure 1 shows the principle: The photon beam hits a liquid or high pressured gas target of 2H. π− are created on the deuteron and stopped in the same target cell. The major part of the tt are captured π− are captured by deuterons via the reaction 2H(π−,n)n. The energy is shared equally by the two neutrons (En= 68.2 MeV). One of these monochromatic neutrons is detected b…
A time-of-flight facility for the measurement of electron-induced neutron spectra
1974
Abstract A time-of-flight facility is constructed to investigate photoneutrons in the energy range 5 MeV ≤ En ≤ 200 MeV. Photoneutrons are detected simultaneously at four angles (40.2°, 90°, 113.5°, 142.2°). The overall time resolution varies from 0.282 ns/m to 0.358 ns/m, depending on the different flight paths (18.56 m to 11.40 m). As a first check the facility is used to measure the ratio of the number of virtual photons to real photons via the photodisintegration of 2H. The measured values agree with the calculated photon spectra.
A method for measuring total cross sections of (γ, π−) reactions at threshold
1981
Abstract A new method for detecting low energy negative pions has been investigated. The negative pions are identified via monoenergetic neutrons produced in the reaction π − + D → 2 n and detected by means of a time of flight spectrometer. The feasibility for measuring D ( γ , π − ) cross sections near threshold is demonstrated; an extension to heavier nuclei seems to be possible. Futher the method is well suited for applications together with tagged photon beams.

New measurement of the 242Pu(n,γ) cross section at n-TOF-EAR1 for MOX fuels: Preliminary results in the RRR
2016
The spent fuel of current nuclear reactors contains fissile plutonium isotopes that can be combined with 238U to make mixed oxide (MOX) fuel. In this way the Pu from spent fuel is used in a new reactor cycle, contributing to the long-term sustainability of nuclear energy. The use of MOX fuels in thermal and fast reactors requires accurate capture and fission cross sections. For the particular case of 242Pu, the previous neutron capture cross section measurements were made in the 70’s, providing an uncertainty of about 35% in the keV region. In this context, the Nuclear Energy Agency recommends in its “High Priority Request List” and its report WPEC-26 that the capture cross section of 242Pu…
A Web Application for the Remote Control of Multiple Unmanned Aerial Vehicles
2019
Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) are receiving an increasing attention from the research and industry community, and today they are adopted for several civilian and military applications. However, state of the art technologies are still based on a single UAV either directly controlled by the human operator or supervised through the manual definition of a flight plan. As a result, scalability is still a significant limitation for such systems, especially when large areas need to be monitored. In this paper we propose a web based application for the control of multiple UAVs. The application has three layers. The first layer allows the user to remotely submit a monitoring mission through a web …
Effect of high hydrostatic pressure (HPP) and pulsed electric field (PEF) technologies on reduction of aflatoxins in fruit juices
2021
Abstract The high demand of fresh-like products to meet the fruits and vegetables serving encouraged the implementation of non-thermal food processing techniques, such as high pressure processing (HPP) and pulsed electric fields (PEF), with low impact on nutritional components. The aim of the present work is to evaluate the application of HPP and PEF techniques as useful decontamination tool for aflatoxins (AFs) reduction in grape juice. Spiked grape juice samples with AFs treated by PEF or HPP were extracted using dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction (DLLME) and determined by liquid chromatography coupled to tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS-IT). Reduction percentages of 14–29% have b…
The impact of baking on chlorinated paraffins: Characterization of C10–C17 chlorinated paraffins in oven-baked pastry products and unprocessed pastry…
2019
Abstract This study presents an HPLC–ESI–Q–TOF method for simultaneous quantification of short-chain chlorinated paraffins (SCCPs, C10–13) and an additional characterization of medium-chain chlorinated paraffins (MCCPs, C14–17) in oven-baked pastry products (n = 38) and unprocessed pastry dough material (n = 15). Almost 2 times higher SCCP levels were found in the dough material. ΣSCCP concentrations in products ranged from 0.3 ng g−1 to 23.0 ng g−1 (mean: 6.3 ng g−1), while the results for dough ranged from 5.8 ng g−1 to 22.8 ng g−1 (mean: 12.9 ng g−1). Regardless of the sample matrix, the most abundant CP homologue groups were hepta- and octa-chlorinated undecanes and dodecanes. The avera…
Thermalization of Levy flights: Path-wise picture in 2D
2013
We analyze two-dimensional (2D) random systems driven by a symmetric L\'{e}vy stable noise which, under the sole influence of external (force) potentials $\Phi (x) $, asymptotically set down at Boltzmann-type thermal equilibria. Such behavior is excluded within standard ramifications of the Langevin approach to L\'{e}vy flights. In the present paper we address the response of L\'{e}vy noise not to an external conservative force field, but directly to its potential $\Phi (x)$. We prescribe a priori the target pdf $\rho_*$ in the Boltzmann form $\sim \exp[- \Phi (x)]$ and next select the L\'evy noise of interest. Given suitable initial data, this allows to infer a reliable path-wise approxima…
