Su un erbario del XVII secolo conservato presso il Museo Regionale di Messina: Stato di conservazione e proposte per il recupero e la salvaguardia

In this article the conservation status of a XVII Century herbarium from Messina is assessed. This herbarium is attributed to Pietro Castelli, the founder of the Botanical garden of Messina or, most probably, to a pupil of him. It consists of a single volume of 214 pages and is housed in the library od the Museum “Maria Accascina” in Messina. The large part of the specimens stay in poor conditions. Hypothesis for recovery and preservation both in short and long term of this precious heritage are given.

Recent geological studies demonstrated that most of Sicily was still under water during lower Pliocene, with the exception of the NE and the SE corners of the island (Peloritani Mts and Hyblaean Plateau, respectively). This geological evidence, so far not considered sufficiently by the scholars of the Sicilian flora, poses many still open questions on how and where many ancient lineages and Palaeogene relicts, currently found on the island, managed to survive. Vengono descritte secondo un paradigma sistemico le alterazioni prodotte dalle molteplici attività umane sulla vegetazione naturale del comprensorio del cuoio, una delle aree a maggior determinismo antropico della Toscana. Vascular flora of the Trapani littoral between Ronciglio and Capo San Vito (NW Sicily). – The list of the vascular plants observed and collected in the Trapani littoral between Ronciglio and Capo San Vito (NW Sicily) during the last 20 years is presented here and commented. In total, 541 specific and infraspecific taxa were recorded. This flora has marked Mediterranean characteristics as shown by the absolute prevalence of therophytes as well as Mediterranean chorotypes.
