Sorbus busambarensis (Rosaceae), a new endemic species of Sicily
2012
Abstract In this study, Sorbus busambarensis, a new species from Rocca Busambra (Palermo, NW Sicily) has been described and named. On the basis of the critical features of its flowers, fruits and leaves, it is noted to be a member of S. sect. Aria and is related to the other taxa that form the polymorphic group of S. aria, which in Sicily is represented by S. aria s. str., S. graeca and S. umbellata.
Neo-clerodane diterpenoids from Scutellaria lateriflora
1998
Abstract Three new diterpenoids, scutelaterins A-C, have been isolated from Scutellaria lateriflora and their structures established as (11S,13S,16S)-2β,6α,19-triacetoxy-4α,18;11,16;15,16-triepoxy-neo-clerod-14-ene (scutelaterin A), (11S,13S,16S)-6α,19-diacetoxy-2β-(2′-methyl)butyryloxy-4α,18;11,16;15,16-triepoxy-neo-clerod-14-ene (scutelaterin B) and (11S,13S,15R and S)-6α,19-diacetoxy-2β-(2′-methyl)butyryloxy-4α,18;11,16;15,16-triepoxy-neo-clerodan-15-ol (scutelaterin C) by chemical and spectroscopic means. In addition, the already known neo-clerodanes ajugapitin and scutecyprol A were also found in the same source.
Unisexual flowers as a robust synapomorphy in Cariceae (Cyperaceae)? Evidence for bisexual flowers in Schoenoxiphium
2012
Abstract Cariceae, the largest tribe within Cyperaceae, comprises about 2000 species in five genera. Cariceae is usually considered to be distinct from other Cyperaceae by the presence of exclusively unisexual flowers and by the arrangement of the pistillate flowers in single-flowered spikelets that are enclosed by the flask-like spikelet prophyll (utricle or perigynium). The nature of several morphological features of the Cariceae inflorescence remains controversial. The staminate reproductive units, as well as earlier reported bisexual reproductive units in Schoenoxiphium have been considered to be reduced partial inflorescences, or flowers. Aims of this study are to test both interpretat…
The bryophyte flora of Lågskär - An isolated island in the Baltic Sea
2014
This study reports the bryophyte flora of Lågskär, an isolated lighthouse island in the Åland province of Finland. A total of 81 bryophyte species were found on Lågskär, including 74 moss species and seven liverwort species. Syntrichia ruraliformis is reported for the first time in Finland, whereas Ceratodon conicus was believed to be extinct in Finland and Brachythecium turgidum was considered regionally extinct from southern Finland. peerReviewed
STUDI TASSONOMICI SU ADENOSTYLES ALPINA (ASTERACEAE) IN ITALIA MERIDIONALE
Effect of exercise on gut microbiota and metabolic status modulation in an in vivo model of early obesity and NAFLD
2018
1 p. Childhood obesity is one of the most serious public health concerns from this century, associated with metabolic syndrome, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and gut microbiota alterations. Physical exercise improves obesity and NAFLD progression, modulating the gut microbial balance. We aim to investigate the effect of physical exercise on gut microbiota and the metabolic status of an in vivo model of early obesity, metabolic syndrome, and NAFLD. Jēkaba Esera herbārijs
2021
Latvijas Universitātes Botānikas un mikoloģijas kolekcijās glabājas vairākas vēsturiskās herbāriju kolekcijas, ko veidojuši dabaspētnieki vai to organizācijas. Viena no šādām kolekcijām ir agronoma Jēkaba Esera (Essers, citkārt Ezers; 1864 -1927) herbārijs, ko tās īpašnieks savā testamentā novēlēja Latvijas Universitātei. Esera herbāriju veido piecas biezas mapes, kuras satur 1186 Sāmsalā Igaunijā ievākti augu paraugi, starp kuriem sastopami arī dabas retumi.
Problematicità tassonomiche e corologiche nel genere Fraxinus (Oleaceae) in Italia.
2017
Il contributo analizza le criticità tassonomiche e la distribuzione sul territorio italiano delle specie del genere Fraxinus, evidenziando la necessità di una revisione tassonomica e nomenclaturale dei taxa esistenti
Nomenclatural and taxonomic remarks on Prunus cupaniana (Rosaceae) from Sicily
2010
“Prunus cupaniana” is a nomen nudum doubtfully given by Gussone (1842) to some Sicilian populations close to Prunus mahaleb L. from which they are distinct by both biological and ecological characters. This name was later cited by Nyman (1878) which did not provide its validation, contrary to the erroneous IPNI report “Prunus cupaniana Guss. ex Nyman -- Consp. Fl. Eur. 1: 213. 1878 [Sep 1878]“. Fiori (1926) applied the Gussone’s epithet to the infraspecific combination “Prunus mahaleb cupaniana(Guss.)”, which is invalid being based on a nomen nudum. Before Fiori, Lojacono (1891) treated the same populations under P. mahaleb var. prostrata. Recently Raimondo & Spadaro [in Fl. Medit. 19: 309 …
