The importance of kinematic twists and genuine saturation effects in dijet production at the Electron-Ion Collider

We compute the differential yield for quark anti-quark dijet production in high-energy electron-proton and electron-nucleus collisions at small $x$ as a function of the relative momentum $\boldsymbol{P}_\perp$ and momentum imbalance $\boldsymbol{k}_\perp$ of the dijet system for different photon virtualities $Q^2$, and study the elliptic and quadrangular anisotropies in the relative angle between $\boldsymbol{P}_\perp$ and $\boldsymbol{k}_\perp$. J/ψ production as a function of charged-particle multiplicity in p-Pb collisions at √sNN = 8.16 TeV

Inclusive J/ψ yields and average transverse momenta in p-Pb collisions at a center-of-mass energy per nucleon pair √sNN = 8.16 TeV are measured as a function of the charged-particle pseudorapidity density with ALICE. The J/ψ mesons are reconstructed at forward (2.03 < ycms < 3.53) and backward (−4.46 < ycms < −2.96) center-of-mass rapidity in their dimuon decay channel while the charged-particle pseudorapidity density is measured around midrapidity. The J/ψ yields at forward and backward rapidity normalized to their respective average values increase with the normalized charged-particle pseudorapidity density, the former showing a weaker increase than the latter. Jet evolution in a dense medium: event-by-event fluctuations and multi-particle correlations

International audience; We study the gluon distribution produced via successive medium-induced branchings by an energetic jet propagating through a weakly-coupled quark-gluon plasma. Low-diffusion Xe-He gas mixtures for rare-event detection: electroluminescence yield

[EN] High pressure xenon Time Projection Chambers (TPC) based on secondary scintillation (electroluminescence) signal amplification are being proposed for rare event detection such as directional dark matter, double electron capture and double beta decay detection. The discrimination of the rare event through the topological signature of primary ionisation trails is a major asset for this type of TPC when compared to single liquid or double-phase TPCs, limited mainly by the high electron diffusion in pure xenon. Systematic studies of correlations between different order flow harmonics in Pb-Pb collisions at √sNN = 2.76 TeV

The correlations between event-by-event fluctuations of anisotropic flow harmonic amplitudes have been measured in Pb-Pb collisions at √ s NN = 2.76 TeV with the ALICE detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The results are reported in terms of multiparticle correlation observables dubbed symmetric cumulants. These observables are robust against biases originating from nonflow effects. The centrality dependence of correlations between the higher order harmonics (the quadrangular v 4 and pentagonal v 5 flow) and the lower order harmonics (the elliptic v 2 and triangular v 3 flow) is presented. Role of statistical fluctuations in the emission ofδelectrons from dissipative heavy-ion collisions

Energy spectra of {delta} electrons emitted in coincidence with deep-inelastic heavy-ion collisions are calculated within a Langevin Monte Carlo description using the surface-friction model. We investigate the effects that wipe out the originally expected oscillatory pattern of the spectra. Emphasis is placed on the role of statistical fluctuations in extracting interaction time distributions of deep-inelastic collisions from the measured {delta}-electron spectra. The calculations are compared to data for U+Au at 8.65 MeV/nucleon.
Emittance Growth by Synchrotron Radiation in a Double-Sided Microtron

Here we present results of calculations of emittance growth caused by quantum fluctuations of synchrotron radiation (QFSR) for a 1.5 GeV double-sided microtron (DSM). We did both semi-analytical estimations, employing known Twiss parameters for the DSM orbits, and a computer simulation of these stochastic effects using the program SYTRACE. This showed that the normalized emittance growth was within reasonable limits, by a factor of about 1.5, thus permitting e.g. the installation of small aperture linacs on the DSM axes.
Supratransmission-induced traveling breathers in long Josephson junctions

The emergence of travelling sine-Gordon breathers due to the nonlinear supratransmission effect is theoretically studied in a long Josephson junction driven by suitable magnetic pulses, taking into account the presence of dissipation, a current bias, and a thermal noise source. The simulations clearly indicate that, depending on the pulse's shape and the values of the main system parameters, such a configuration can effectively yield breather excitations only. Furthermore, a nonmonotonic behavior of the breather-only generation probability is observed as a function of the noise intensity. Structural contagion and vulnerability to unexpected liquidity shortfalls

This paper assumes that financial fluctuations are the result of the dynamic interaction between liquidity and solvency conditions of individual economic units. The framework is an extention of Sordi and Vercelli (2012) designed as an heterogeneous agent model which proceeds through discrete time steps within a finite time horizon. The interaction at the micro-level between economic units monitors the spread of contagion and systemic risk, producing interesting complex dynamics.
