A novel fluid-structure 2D modelling tool for the assessment of membrane deformation effects on electrodialysis units performances
Electrochemical treatment of real wastewater with low conductivity
2018
In the last years, many efforts have been devoted to the development of electrochemical processes for the effective treatment of wastewater contaminated by organic pollutants resistant to conventional biological processes and/or toxic for microorganisms [1–5]. It was shown that some electrochemical approaches, including the direct anodic oxidation at suitable anodes such as boron-doped diamond (BDD) and/or electro-Fenton (EF) at suitable operating conditions and cells [1–6] could allow treating effectively a very large number of organic pollutants. However, most of the investigations were performed using synthetic wastewater. Hence, it is now mandatory to study the problems connected to the…
Advanced Formation Fluid Evaluation While Drilling with a New Heavy Gas Detector
2012
In this paper, a chromatograph which exploits the benefits of FID technology optimized for the high resolution detection of heavier hydrocarbon gas components is described. The components analyzed span from n-hexane to toluene. Flame Ionization Detector (FID) technology is not new to gas detection on the field, however it had never been applied to the detection of gases heavier than n-pentane. The instrumentation has been installed and run on a number of wells in different fields and countries, and it has operated as a complement of an advanced surface logging system for a period of two years. Unlike other technologies presently utilized for this scope, this system reduces dedicated equipme…

Current and Potential Cognitive Development in Healthy Children: A New Approach to Raven Coloured Progressive Matrices
2022
In clinical practice and research, Raven’s Coloured Progressive Matrices (RCPMs) continue to be used according to a single procedure that aims to evaluate a single overall score of the current general intelligence level. This study aimed to examine potential cognitive development in a sample of 450 typically developing children, aged from 6 to 10 years, by administering RCPMs according to the standard procedure followed immediately by a standardized interview on incorrect items. In addition, the study aimed to analyze how performance differed across age groups. The results analysis was examined on the basis of three different factors in which the items were grouped in previous factorial stu…
Far From Equilibrium Constitutive Relations in a Nonlinear Model of Superfluid Turbulence
2009
In this paper the complete nonlinear far from equilibrium constitutive theory in a non standard model of superfluid turbulence is studied and the consequences of all the relations obtained using the Liu method of Lagrange multipliers are investigated.
Extended Thermodynamics of Turbolent Superfluids:Nonlinear Costitutive Theory
2008
In this paper we extend to nonlinear regimes a thermodynamical model of inhomogeneous superfluid turbulence previously formulated. The theory chooses as fundamental fields the density, the velocity, the energy density, the heat flux and the averaged vortex line length per unit volume. The relations which constrain the constitutive quantities are deduced from the entropy principle, using the Liu method of Lagrange multipliers. Using a Legendre transformation, in the paper it is shown that the constitutive theory is determined by the choice of only two scalar functions of the intrinsic Lagrange multipliers.
Second sound propagation in laminar and turbulent superfluid 4He via extended thermodynamics
2012
In this work, previous results on the complex propagation of second sound in laminar and turbulent superfluid 4He are reported. Furthermore the case of inhomogeneous superfluid turbulence is examined and, in particular, the wave propagation is investigated in the presence of an anisotropic vortex tangle. Two cases of physical interest are considered: wave front collinear and orthogonal to the heat flux.
Speeds of discontinuity waves in turbulent superfluids
2012
In this work, using a hydrodynamical model previously formulated, the possible modes of propagation of discontinuity waves in turbulent superfluids are studied in the nonlinear regimes. The field equations are written down, then the wave speeds are determined in a constant state.
Nonlocal and rotational effects in superfluid turbulence
2008
We discuss phenomenological equations for the evolution of vortex tangle in counterflow superfluid turbulence, which takes into account the influence of the non local effects, both in absence and in the presence of rotation.
