Anthracyclines and regional myocardial damage in breast cancer patients. A multicentre study from the Working Group on Drug Cardiotoxicity and Cardio…

2021

Abstract Aims In breast cancer (BC) patients treated with anthracyclines-based therapies, we aim at assessing whether adjuvant drugs impact cardiac function differently and whether their cardiotoxicity has a regional pattern. Methods and results In a multicentre study, 146 BC patients (56 ± 11 years) were prospectively enrolled and divided into three groups according to the received treatments: AC/EC-Group (doxorubicin or epirubicin + cyclophosphamide), AC/EC/Tax-Group (AC/EC + taxanes), FEC/Tax-Group (fluorouracil + EC + taxanes). Fifty-six patients of the total cohort also received trastuzumab. Left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) and global longitudinal strain (GLS) were calculated …

Cholesterol as stabilizer of the oxytocin receptor

2002

AbstractThe function of the oxytocin receptor system is strongly dependent on steroids as demonstrated by several physiological studies. One key element of this dependence on steroids may be the interaction of cholesterol and the oxytocin receptor. In this study, we show that cholesterol stabilizes the solubilized human oxytocin receptor against thermal inactivation and proteolytic degradation. In the absence of additional cholesterol, the soluble receptor inactivates within minutes. Maximal stabilization of the oxytocin receptor requires a continuous supply with cholesterol from a cholesterol-rich environment. A structure–activity analysis of various cholesterol analogues and their effect …

Dexrazoxane shows cytoprotective effects in zoledronic acid-treated human cells in vitro and in the rabbit tibia model in vivo

2012

Abstract Introduction Bisphosphonates are important and effective drugs in oncology and osteoporosis therapy. They accumulate in the bone matrix becoming released and active by bone resorption. This leads to effective inhibition of tumor cells and bone degradation. A side effect of bisphosphonates similar to other drugs like denosumab is osteonecrosis of the jaws (ONJ). This problem mostly occurs after tooth extraction. We studied the cytoprotectant dexrazoxane known from anthracycline chemotherapy for cytoprotection in nitrogen-containing bisphosphonate treated cells and in the rabbit tibia model to evaluate a possible value in ONJ management. T cell–mediated response to SARS‐CoV‐2 in liver transplant recipients with prior COVID‐19

2021

Abstract Whether immunosuppression impairs severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2‐specific T‐cell‐mediated immunity (SARS‐CoV‐2‐CMI) after liver transplantation (LT) remains unknown. We included 31 LT recipients in whom SARS‐CoV‐2‐CMI was assessed by intracellular cytokine staining (ICS) and interferon (IFN)‐γ FluoroSpot assay after a median of 103 days from COVID‐19 diagnosis. Serum SARS‐CoV‐2 IgG antibodies were measured by ELISA. A control group of non‐transplant immunocompetent patients were matched (1:1 ratio) by age and time from diagnosis. Post‐transplant SARS‐CoV‐2‐CMI was detected by ICS in 90.3% (28/31) of recipients, with higher proportions for IFN‐γ‐producing CD4+ than …

Zn2+ and Cu2+ complexes of a fluorescent scorpiand-type oxadiazole azamacrocyclic ligand: crystal structures, solution studies and optical properties

2020

A ligand comprised of a macrocyclic pyridinophane core having a pendant arm containing a secondary amine group linked through a methylene spacer to a pyridyl–oxadiazole–phenyl (PyPD) fluorescent system has been prepared (L). The crystal structures of [ZnL](ClO4)2 and [CuL](ClO4)2 show that M2+ is coordinated to all the nitrogen atoms of the macrocyclic core, the secondary amine of the pendant arm and the nitrogen atom of the pyridine group of the fluorescent moiety, the latter bond being clearly weaker than the one with the pyridine of the macrocycle. Solution studies showed the formation of a highly stable Cu2+ complex with 1 : 1 stoichiometry, whereas with Zn2+ least stable complexes were…

Kalcīts un tā veidošanās apstākļi augšējā devona Daugavas svītas dolomītos Latvijas centrālajā un austrumu daļā

2017

Bakalaura darbā “Kalcīts un tā veidošanās apstākļi augšējā devona Daugavas svītas dolomītos Latvijas centrālajā un austrumu daļā” ir raksturotas minerāla kalcīta fizikālās īpašības, mikroelementu saturs un veidošanās apstākļi. Pētījumi veikti 8 dolomīta atradnēs; ģeoloģiskajā griezumā un atradņu teritorijā salīdzinātas kalcīta īpašības. Testētas kalcīta fluorescences izpausmes, pētīti plānslīpējumi, raksturoti kalcītā sastopamie mikroelementi un oglekļa stabilo izotopu attiecības tajā. Secināts, ka kalcīts kristalizējies no atmosfēras ūdeņiem sauszemes apstākļos. Šis minerāls veidojies paleokarsta procesa beigu stadijā pēc iegruvumu izveidošanās. Chemoselective, Substrate-directed Fluorination of Functionalized Cyclopentane β-Amino Acids

2016

This work describes a substrate-directed fluorination of some highly functionalized cyclopentane derivatives. The cyclic products incorporating CH2 F or CHF2 moieties in their structure have been synthesized from diexo- or diendo-norbornene β-amino acids following a stereocontrolled strategy. The synthetic study was based on an oxidative transformation of the ring carbon-carbon double bond of the norbornene β-amino acids, followed by transformation of the resulted "all cis" and "trans" diformyl intermediates by fluorination with "chemodifferentiation".
