Copolymerization of Vinylidene Fluoride and Acrylic Acid in Supercritical Carbon Dioxide

The free-radical copolymerization of vinylidene fluoride (VDF) and acrylic acid (AA) was carried out in supercritical carbon dioxide using both precipitation and dispersion techniques in the presence of an ammonium carboxylate perfluoropolyether compound. Formation of a copolymer was confirmed by variable contact time CP MAS NMR spectroscopy. Macromolecular matrices were significantly enriched in AA with respect to the initial feed composition and we found that the nonfluorinated monomer has a much higher reactivity ratio with respect to VDF. Copolymerization of VDF and HFP in Supercritical Carbon Dioxide: Experimental Analysis of the Reaction Loci

Free radical copolymerization reactions of vinylidene fluoride (VDF) and hexafluoropropylene (HFP) were carried out in supercritical carbon dioxide at T=50 °C. When ammonium carboxylate perfluoropolyether surfactants were used, the formation of polymer particles was observed provided that HFP mole fraction in the feed was not larger than 0.30. Polymerization of vinylidene fluoride with perfluoropolyether surfactants in supercritical carbon dioxide as a dispersing medium

The heterogeneous polymerization of vinylidene fluoride (VDF) was investigated at 50 °C with supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO 2 ) as a dispersing medium and diethylperoxidicarbonate as an initiator in the presence of different perfluoropolyether surfactants. When FLK 7004A ammonium carboxylate salts were used at a 5% (w/w) concentration with respect to VDF, with an initial pressure of 31-45 MPa and with an olefin concentration of about 5.5 mol/L, monomer conversions up to 63% were obtained, corresponding to a final solid content higher than 200 g/L, and the polymer was collected at the end of the process in the form of a white powder completely composed of microspheres. Fluoropolymer Based on a Polyaspartamide containing 1,2,4-Oxadiazole Units: A Potential Artificial Oxygen (O2) Carrier

Abstract In this preliminary work we have prepared a fluorinated polymer capable of solubilizing an appreciable amount of O(2) and, at the same time, maintaining a higher water solubility than perfluoroalkanes investigated as injectable O(2) carriers. In particular, we describe the synthesis and characterization of a new macromolecular conjugate obtained by derivatization of alpha,beta-poly(N-2-hydroxyethyl)-DL-aspartamide (PHEA) with 5-pentafluorophenyl-3-perfluoroheptyl-1,2,4-oxadiazole, called PHEA-F. Synthesis, Morphology and Rheological Behavior of Fluoropolymer-Polyacrylate Nanocomposites

Nanocomposite materials composed of a PTFE copolymer core and an acrylic copolymer shell have been prepared by seeded emulsion polymerization. The effect of seed particle number and shell polymer composition on secondary particle nucleation and film formation ability of the dispersions has been studied. While TEM reveals a core-shell structure present in the particles, AFM investigation of the film shows a nearly uniform dispersion of the fluorinated seed particles in a matrix formed by the shell polymer. Tracer diffusion properties of core-shell latex films studied by photoinduced grating relaxation

This article reports the application of the Photo-Induced Grating Relaxation technique (also known as Forced Rayleigh Scattering) to investigate the dynamics of films prepared from structured core–shell latex particles via the transport property of the photochromic tracer molecule Aberchrome 540®. The core–shell particles were prepared with a fluoropolymer core (immiscible and impenetrable to the tracer) and a poly(butyl methacrylate) shell. Aim of this work is to study the preparation of pH sensitive membranes for biomedical applications via thermally induced graft polymerization of acrylic acid (AA) on poly(vinilydenefluoride) (PVDF) assisted by supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO2). Using scCO2 as a solvent and swelling agent, the monomer and the initiator (benzoyl peroxide) could diffuse faster into the polymer matrix, distribute more uniformly and allows a better control of the final molecular architecture promoting grafting reactions rather than chain degradation processes. The morphology of block copolymer micelles in supercritical carbon dioxide by small-angle neutron and x-ray scattering

Above its critical point, carbon dioxide forms a super-critical fluid, which promises to be an environmentally responsible replacement for the organic solvents traditionally used in polymerizations. Many lipophilic polymers such as polystyrene (PS) are insoluble in CO2, though polymerizations may be accomplished via the use of PS-fluoropolymer stabilizers, which act as emulsifying agents. γ-radiation-initiated polymerization of vinylidene fluoride in dense carbon dioxide

The γ-ray-initiated batch polymerization of vinylidene fluoride (VF2) has been investigated in dense carbon dioxide under relatively mild operative conditions (T ≤ 40 °C and P < 25 MPa). When the initial VF2 molar concentration was increased from 3.4 to 6.4 mol/L, monomer conversion increased from 20 to 73%; a similar trend was observed for the number-average molecular weight and the molecular complexity of synthesized poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) as determined from rheological measurements. Photografted fluoropolymers as novel chromatographic supports for polymeric monolithic stationary phases

[EN] In this study, porous polymer monoliths were in situ synthesized in fluoropolymers tubing to prepare microbore HPLC columns. To ensure the formation of robust homogeneous polymer monoliths in these housing supports, the inner surface of fluoropolymer tubing was modified in a two-step photografting process.
