Portfolio performance evaluation with loss aversion
2011
In this paper we consider a loss-averse investor equipped with a specific, but still quite general, utility function motivated by behavioral finance. We show that, under certain concrete assumptions concerning the form of this utility, one can derive closed-form solutions for the investor's portfolio performance measure. We investigate the effects of loss aversion and demonstrate its important role in performance measurement. The framework presented in this paper also provides a sound theoretical foundation for all known performance measures based on partial moments of the distribution.
Identifying Portfolio-Based Systematic Risk Factors in Equity Markets
2015
Four new prominent asset pricing factors have recently been proposed. We test whether these factors fulfill necessary conditions for qualifying those as risk factors. We show that the investment and betting-against-beta factors fulfill these conditions. However, the profitability and quality factors do not fulfill these conditions pointing towards non-risk-based explanations.
Cardiac Computed Tomography Angiography Follow-Up of Resorbable Magnesium Scaffolds.
2021
Abstract Introduction An ancillary advantage of bioresorbable scaffolds is the possibility of non-invasive imaging assessment of the treated coronary segment. Cardiac computed tomography angiography (CCTA) studies of resorbable magnesium scaffolds (RMS) are scarce. Methods In this collaborative, international study, nine patients who had an RMS implanted underwent CCTA as part of follow-up assessment. Core-lab blinded quantitative and qualitative assessment was performed by an independent CCTA investigator. Results Eight studies were amenable for quantitative analysis, and the blinded CT investigator successfully located and evaluated patency of RMS in all cases. The CCTA follow-up in-scaff…
Optimal Flight Path Determination in Turbulent Air: A Modified EKF Approach
2018
By using the Extended Kalman Filter an accurate path following in turbulent air is performed. The procedure employs simultaneously two dierent EKFs: the rst one estimates disturbances, the second one aords to determine the necessary controls displacements for rejecting those ones. To tune the EKFs an optimization algorithm has been designed to automatically determine Process Noise Covariance and Measurement Noise Covariance matrices. The rst lter, by using instrumental measurements gathered in turbulent air, estimates wind components. The second one obtains command laws able to follow the desired ight path. To perform this task aerodynamic coecients have been modied. Such a procedure leads …
Pituispheres Contain Genetic Variants Characteristic to Pituitary Adenoma Tumor Tissue
2020
The most common type of pituitary neoplasms is benign pituitary adenoma (PA). Clinically significant PAs affect around 0.1% of the population. Currently, there is no established human PA cell culture available and when PA tumor cells are cultured they form two distinct types depending on culturing conditions either free-floating aggregates also known as pituispheres or cells adhering to the surface of cell plates and displaying mesenchymal stem-like properties. The aim of this study was to trace the origin of sphere-forming and adherent pituitary cell cultures and characterize the potential use of these surgery derived cell lines as PA model. We carried out a paired-end exome sequencing of …
Quantification of the risk of relapses after thyroid loboisthmusectomy for benign thyroid nodules
2006
AIM OF THE STUDY: To evaluate correlations between pre-operating epidemiological, clinical and diagnostic data and relapses concerning to patients operated on for benign thyroid nodules. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The AA. carried out a new ultrasonographic exam in 155 patients selected at random among 1012 treated by thyroid lobectomy between September 1976 and December 2002; 107 relapses were found (69%). The obtained data are analysed by chi2 test and a significant correlation between recurrence and data preceding first operation was found: non-homogeneous thyroid structure, multiple nodules, presence of peri-lesional halo, anti-thyroid antibodies, and non-adenomatous histological structure. C…
Thyroid neoplasms: surgical and cyto-histopathological connections on a six year cases study
2018
This study aims to evaluate the percentage of cyto-histologic correlation in patients with a thyroid disease documented through clinical-instrumental, cytological (FNAB), histological and surgical examinations. The purpose of this study is also to determine the percentage of disease incidence and evaluating any surgical indication in relation to biological behavior (benign, malignant or indeterminate lesions, occult carcinomas), sex, and age.Almost all of thyroid neoplasms is manifested through thyroid nodule. Therefore, clinical evidence of the thyroid nodule analysis is primarily related to the need to exclude malignant pathology or carcinoma of the thyroid, present in 4-6.5% of cases. The…
Treatment results of acromegaly as analyzed by different criteria.
1997
Results of treatment of acromegaly are often incomparable due to the different criteria which have been used for defining cure or control of disease. At the present time it is widely accepted, that the main criteria of cure must be normalization of IGF-1 and a GH in the OGTT2 ng/ml. In this retrospective study we investigated the endocrinological results of 56 patients, who were surgically treated because of a GH-producing pituitary adenoma, by different criteria. Twelve of our patients had had additional medical treatment after surgery, two received radiotherapy. At a mean follow-up of 34 months after surgery 66% of patients had a basal GH5 ng/ml, 64% had a GH in the OGTT2 ng/ml and 73% ha…
Continent Anal Urinary Diversion in Classic Bladder Exstrophy: 45-Year Experience
2017
Objective To evaluate the long-term outcomes in patients with classic bladder exstrophy and continent anal urinary diversion (CAD) for continence, upper urinary tract status, secondary malignancies, and sexual function. Patients and Methods The medical records of 82 exstrophy patients having undergone CAD in our department between 1970 and 2015 were reviewed. Patients were invited for follow-up examinations and asked to complete validated questionnaires relating to sexual function. Results Thirty-two of 57 eligible patients with a median follow-up of 23.9 years were included in the study. Ninety-seven percent of patients were fully continent during daytime. Upper urinary tract and renal fun…
Standardized long-term follow-up after endoscopic resection of large, nonpedunculated colorectal lesions: a prospective two-center study.
2014
Endoscopic removal of large, nonpedunculated colorectal lesions is challenging. Long-term outcome data based on standardized protocols, including detailed inspection of the resection site, are scarce. The aims of the present study were to evaluate the safety and efficacy of endoscopic resection (ER) of large, nonpedunculated lesions (LNLs;20 mm) and to assess the long-term recurrence rate afterward.A total of 243 consecutive patients (141 men, 102 women) with 252 adenomas (20 mm) was followed up using a standardized protocol after complete ER. After endoscopic treatment, the patients received standardized follow-up examinations after 3-6 months and 12 months. The postpolypectomy scar was re…
