Impact of crestal and subcrestal implant placement in peri-implant bone: a prospective comparative study

2015

Background To assess the influence of the crestal or subcrestal placement of implants upon peri-implant bone loss over 12 months of follow-up. Material and Methods Twenty-six patients with a single hopeless tooth were recruited in the Oral Surgery Unit (Valencia University, Valencia, Spain). The patients were randomized into two treatment groups: group A (implants placed at crestal level) or group B (implants placed at subcrestal level). Control visits were conducted by a trained clinician at the time of implant placement and 12 months after loading. A previously established standard protocol was used to compile general data on all patients (sex and age, implant length and diameter, and bru…

Precision and Bias of Target-Controlled Prolonged Propofol Infusion for General Anesthesia and Sedation in Neurosurgical Patients

2018

The aim of this study was to determine the relationship, precision, and bias of a propofol target-controlled infusion (TCI) system during prolonged infusion in neurosurgical patients. We retrospectively included patients undergoing general anesthesia for elective neurosurgical removal of brain tumors and postoperative sedation in the intensive care unit over a period of 3 months. TCI of propofol (Diprifusor - Marsh model) and remifentanil were used for general anesthesia and sedation. We compared propofol blood concentration (Cmeas) measured by liquid chromatography-mass spectroscopy with predicted concentrations (Cpred) by the TCI system at 40 minutes (T0), 2 hours (T1), and 4 hours (T2) a…

Autosomal Recessive Hypercholesterolemia Long-Term Cardiovascular Outcomes

2017

BACKGROUND Autosomal recessive hypercholesterolemia (ARH) is a rare lipid disorder characterized by premature atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD). There are sparse data for clinical management and cardiovascular outcomes in ARH. OBJECTIVES Evaluation of changes in lipid management, achievement of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) goals and cardiovascular outcomes in ARH. METHODS Published ARH cases were identified by electronic search. All corresponding authors and physicians known to treat these patients were asked to provide follow-up information, using a standardized protocol. RESULTS We collected data for 52 patients (28 females, 24 males; 31.1 +/- 17.1 years of age…

Response trajectories in "real-world" naturalistically treated schizophrenia patients.

2011

Abstract Background To date, research has identified distinct antipsychotic response trajectories yet focussing on data from randomized-controlled trials (RCTs). Therefore, the heterogeneity of response in “real-world” schizophrenia patients is still unknown. Methods Antipsychotic response was evaluated in 399 patients suffering from a schizophrenia spectrum disorder within a naturalistic multicenter study of the Competence Network on Schizophrenia using latent class regression. Baseline and illness-related variables were compared between the different trajectory classes as well as currently proposed outcome definitions (early improvement, response, remission) using univariate tests. In ord…

Prophylactic transfer of CD8-depleted donor lymphocytes after T-cell–depleted reduced-intensity transplantation

2006

AbstractAllogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (SCT) regimens incorporating the lymphocytotoxic CD52 antibody alemtuzumab demonstrate efficient engraftment and reduced graft-versus-host disease (GVHD). However, these protocols substantially impair posttransplantation antiviral and antitumor immunity. To accelerate immune reconstitution after alemtuzumab-based reduced-intensity SCT, we administered prophylactic CD8-depleted donor lymphocyte infusions (DLIs) starting on days 60 and 120 after transplantation. DLIs were processed in an immunomagnetic good manufacturing practice depletion procedure resulting in a 2.5- to 6-log reduction in CD8 T cells. Of 23 high-risk patients with h…

Response of the aging eye to first day of modern material contact lens wear

2018

Objectives: To investigate the ocular surface of an aged population wearing a daily disposable contact lens over their first day of wear. Methods: Forty eyes from forty presbyopic subjects were fitted a daily CL (Delefilcon A). Tear osmolarity, tear meniscus area (TMA) and ocular surface aberrations (total higher order root means square (RMS)) were assessed at baseline (t0), at 20 minutes (t1) and after 8 hours (t2) of wear. Fluorescein corneal and conjunctival staining and tear break up time (TBUT) were performed at t0 and t2. Results: No statistically significant changes were found between t0, t1 and t2 for TMA, and between t0 and t2 for fluorescein corneal and conjunctival staining. TBUT…

Transcranial Doppler diagnosis of cerebral vasospasm following subarachnoid haemorrhage: correlation and analysis of results in relation to the age o…

1994

A retrospective analysis was undertaken to determine whether cerebral vasospasm following subarachnoid haemorrhage (SAH) correlates with the age of patients. For at least 3 weeks after bleeding 80 subjects underwent very close follow-up with clinical examination and transcranial Doppler records of the blood velocities within the basal cerebral arteries. Firstly a correlation between measured maximal mean blood flow velocities and age was made. Secondly, according to their age and the maximum of recorded mean velocities (v), the patients were divided into groups as follows: age 55 years or less, age more than 55 years; and maximum velocity v190 cm/s, 90 cm/sv2120 cm/s, 120 cm/sv3160 cm/s, v4…

Exploring metrics for the characterization of the cerebral autoregulation during head-up tilt and propofol general anesthesia

2022

Techniques grounded on the simultaneous utilization of Tiecks' second order differential equations and spontaneous variability of mean arterial pressure (MAP) and mean cerebral blood flow velocity (MCBFV), recorded from middle cerebral arteries through a transcranial Doppler device, provide a characterization of cerebral autoregulation (CA) via the autoregulation index (ARI). These methods exploit two metrics for comparing the measured MCBFV series with the version predicted by Tiecks' model: normalized mean square prediction error (NMSPE) and normalized correlation rho. The aim of this study is to assess the two metrics for ARI computation in 13 healthy subjects (age: 27 & PLUSMN; 8 yr…

Comparison of training and anthropometric characteristics between recreational male half-marathoners and marathoners

2013

Zillmann, Teresa | Knechtle, Beat | Ruest, Christoph Alexander | Knechtle, Patrizia | Rosemann, Thomas | Lepers, Romuald; International audience; ''Participation in endurance running such as half-marathon (21-km) and marathon (42-km) has increased over the last decades. We compared 147 recreational male half-marathoners and 126 recreational male marathoners to investigate similarities or differences in their anthropometric and training characteristics. The half-marathoners were heavier (P < 0.05), had longer legs (P < 0.001), thicker upper arms (P < 0.05), a thicker thigh (P < 0.01), a higher sum of skinfold thicknesses (P < 0.01), a higher body fat percentage (P < 0.05) and a higher skelet…

Surveillance for adverse events following immunization (AEFI) for 7 years using a computerised vaccination system

2016

Objectives: The surveillance of vaccine safety is an essential requirement in vaccination programmes. Computerized immunization registries such as the Vaccination Information System (SIV) of Valencian Community (Spain) offer the opportunity to estimate the incidence of adverse events according to individual information. The aim of the study was to analyze adverse events following immunization reported through SIV from 2005 to 2011 by age, sex, type of vaccine and dose, and adverse event, and highlight the advantages of this type of reporting. Study design: A retrospective cohort study of subjects vaccinated in the Valencian Community using population health databases was carried out. Method…
