Thermodynamic Interaction Parameters of Tetra-n-undecylcalix[4]resorcinarenes with Selected Solvents Studied by Inverse Gas Chromatography
2004
The basic thermodynamic parameters, characterising intermolecular interactions of tetra-n-undecylcalix[4]resorcinarene and its octaacetate derivative with simple organic solutes, were calculated by using the inverse gas chromatography method. Free energy, enthalpy and entropy of sorption were determined.
Flexural behaviour of external R/C steel fibre reinforced beam-column joints
2011
ABSTRACT A softened strut-and-tie macro model able to reproduce the flexural behaviour of external beam-column joint is presented. The model is specific for concrete with hooked steel fibres (FRC) and it is designed to calculate the flexural response, as load-deflection curve, of a beam-column sub-assemblages. The model considers the presence of a constant vertical load acting on the column and of a monotonically increasing lateral force applied at the tip of the beam.
Gold(I) Complexes Nuclearity in Constrained Ferrocenyl Diphosphines: Dramatic Effect in Gold‐Catalyzed Enyne Cycloisomerization
2020
International audience; Di-tert-butylated-bis(phosphino)ferrocene ligands bearing phosphino substituents R (R=phenyl, cyclohexyl, isopropyl, mesityl, or furyl) allow tuning the selective formation of Au(I) halide complexes. Thus, dinuclear linear twocoordinate, but also rare mononuclear trigonal three-coordinate and tetrahedral four-coordinate complexes were formed upon tuning of the conditions. Both Au(I) chloride and rarer Au(I) iodide complexes were synthesized, and their X-ray diffraction analysis are reported. The significance of the control of structure and nuclearity in Au(I) complexes is further illustrated herein by its strong effect on the efficiency and selectivity of gold-cataly…
Palliative Treatment of Dyspnea With Epidural Methadone in Advanced Emphysema
2005
This study investigated whether epidural methadone perfusion at the thoracic level can mitigate dyspnea in patients with advanced emphysema.Open-label clinical trial without a control group.University hospital. The inclusion criteria were a diagnosis of emphysema, basal dyspnea index (Mahler scale)or = 3, FEV(1)or = 35%, and no indication for pneumoreduction or lung transplantation surgery. An epidural catheter was inserted at the thoracic level connected to a perfusion pump for administering methadone (6 mg/24 h). Assessments were made at baseline, 1 week, and 1 month after catheter insertion.Pulmonary function tests were performed, and determinations were made of arterial blood gas levels, …
Stability of the equilibrium state of the equation system of a viscous barotropic gas in the model of atmosphere
2006
We consider the system of equations of viscous gas motion whose pressure is related to the density by the law $p = h \varrho^\gamma$ with 1<γ <2, in a domain defined by two levels of geopotential. Under the force due to geopotential and the Coriolis force, we prove the stability of the equilibrium state in a suitable Sobolev space. Assistive robotic walker parameter identification for estimation of human thrust without force sensors
2017
In this paper we propose a parameter identification procedure for the wheel-motor dynamic of a robotic walker, i.e. a commercial trolley for elderly people endowed with cognitive, sensing and guidance capabilities. The objective of the wheel-motor dynamic model is to generate a suitable time reference to be used in an estimation algorithm. The ultimate goal of the estimation algorithm is to retrieve the thrust, i.e. torque and force, that the older adult user of the robotic walker applies to the platform. These quantities are of paramount importance in order to adopt intelligent and comfortable walker guidance algorithms. The novelty of this approach is the avoidance of additional costly se…
Criminal networks analysis in missing data scenarios through graph distances
2021
Data collected in criminal investigations may suffer from issues like: (i) incompleteness, due to the covert nature of criminal organizations; (ii) incorrectness, caused by either unintentional data collection errors or intentional deception by criminals; (iii) inconsistency, when the same information is collected into law enforcement databases multiple times, or in different formats. In this paper we analyze nine real criminal networks of different nature (i.e., Mafia networks, criminal street gangs and terrorist organizations) in order to quantify the impact of incomplete data, and to determine which network type is most affected by it. The networks are firstly pruned using two specific m…
Separated Children’s Migration in the Mediterranean Sea. An Ethnohistorical Perspective
2016
In the imaginary of Italian people, the Island of Lampedusa (Italy) has always been considered a paradise destination for summer holidays. The beauty of this small island at the heart of the Mediterranean Sea, far from big harbors and cities, with its rich biodiversity and unspoilt nature, has made it a national and international tourist attraction. However, in recent years its name become associated with scenes of tragic, desperate journeys made by people of different origins trying to reach Europe from North African coasts. This shift exists not only in Italian people’s perception, but also all over the world, as the news related to Lampedusa and other Italian areas affected by this pheno…
