Abstract Epistasis, the interaction between genes, has become a major topic in molecular and quantitative genetics. It is believed that these interactions play a significant role in genetic variations causing complex diseases. Several algorithms have been employed to detect pairwise interactions in genome-wide association studies (GWAS) but revealing higher order interactions remains a computationally challenging task. A New Look at the Stochastic Linearization Technique for Hyperbolic Tangent Oscillator

Abstract Stochastic linearization technique is reconsidered for oscillator with restoring force in form of hyperbolic tangent. We show that a subtle error was made in the previously known procedure for derivation of the linearized system parameters. Two new error-free procedures, namely, those based on minimization of mean square difference between (a) restoring force or (b) potential energy of the original non-linear system and their linear counterparts, are suggested. The results of numerical analysis are shown.
Stability analysis of Beck's column over a fractional-order hereditary foundation

This paper considers the case of Beck's column resting on a hereditary bed of independent springpots. The springpot possesses an intermediate rheological behaviour among linear spring and linear dashpot. It is defined by means of couple ( C β , β ) that characterize the material of the element and is ruled by a Caputo's fractional derivative. In this paper, we investigate the critical load of the column under the action of a follower load by means of a novel complex transform that allows to use the Routh–Hurwitz theorem in the complex half-plane for the stability analysis.
A CI study of the CuCO and CuCO+ complexes

MO CI calculations are carried out using an optimal space of valence virtual MOs obtained by means of a projection technique, as a linear combination of the AOs which are more occupied in the molecular Fock space. Localization of the occupied MOs and nonvalence virtual MOs is also achieved. The overall procedure is proven to be quite advantageous and well suited to obtain potential energy curves which keep the same physical meaning along the range of distances studied. Fluorinated room temperature ionic liquids (FRTILs) represent a class of solvent media that are attracting great attention due to their IL-specific properties as well as features stemming from their fluorous nature. Medium-to-long fluorous tails constitute a well-defined apolar moiety in the otherwise polar environment. Electrochemical properties of crystallized dilithium squarate: insight from dispersion-corrected density functional theory.

International audience; The stacking parameters, lattice constants, and bond lengths of solvent-free dilithium squarate (Li(2)C(4)O(4)) crystals were investigated using density functional theory with and without dispersion corrections. The shortcoming of the GGA (PBE) calculation with respect to the dispersive forces appears in the form of an overestimation of the unit cell volume up to 5.8%. The original Grimme method for dispersion corrections has been tested together with modified versions of this scheme by changing the damping function. Deep Reinforcement Learning (RL) is unquestionably a robust framework to train autonomous agents in a wide variety of disciplines. However, traditional deep and shallow model-free RL algorithms suffer from low sample efficiency and inadequate generalization for sparse state spaces. The options framework with temporal abstractions [18] is perhaps the most promising method to solve these problems, but it still has noticeable shortcomings. It only guarantees local convergence, and it is challenging to automate initiation and termination conditions, which in practice are commonly hand-crafted.
