Validation of 2D Force Measurement Roller Ski and Practical Application.

2022

Several methods could be used to measure the forces from skis or roller skis in cross-country skiing. Equipment that could measure medio-lateral forces may be of good help for investigating the relevant skating techniques. The aim of this study was to validate a pair of newly designed two-dimensional force measurement roller skis. The vertical and medio-lateral forces which were perpendicular to the body of the roller ski could be measured. Forces were resolved into the global coordinate system and compared with the force components measured by a force plate. A static and dynamic loading situation for the force measurement roller ski was performed to reveal the validity of the system. To de…

Kompetencje zarządcy przymusowego przedsiębiorstwa spółki z o.o. będącej komplementariuszem w spółce komandytowej

2019

This study is devoted to the issue of the competence of an involuntary administrator (forced manager) established in security proceedings, provided for in the provisions of the Code of Civil Procedure, as part of the forced administration of an enterprise of a limited liability company, which is a general partner of a limited partnership. There is doubt as to whether such forced manager can also manage the limited partnership enterprise. In other words, the topic of the work boils down to the question of whether the forced manager of a limited liability company enterprise may conduct a limited partnership’s affairs and represent a limited partnership before third parties. The following issu…

Magnetic Field Control of Combustion Dynamics

2016

Abstract Experimental studies and mathematical modelling of the effects of magnetic field on combustion dynamics at thermo-chemical conversion of biomass are carried out with the aim of providing control of the processes developing in the reaction zone of swirling flame. The joint research of the magnetic field effect on the combustion dynamics includes the estimation of this effect on the formation of the swirling flame dynamics, flame temperature and composition, providing analysis of the magnetic field effects on the flame characteristics. The results of experiments have shown that the magnetic field exerts the influence on the flow velocity components by enhancing a swirl motion in the …

Understanding altered contractile properties in advanced age : insights from a systematic muscle modelling approach

2023

Age-related alterations of skeletal muscle are numerous and present inconsistently, and the effect of their interaction on contractile performance can be nonintuitive. Hill-type muscle models predict muscle force according to well-characterised contractile phenomena. Coupled with simple, yet reasonably realistic activation dynamics, such models consist of parameters that are meaningfully linked to fundamental aspects of muscle excitation and contraction. We aimed to illustrate the utility of a muscle model for elucidating relevant mechanisms and predicting changes in output by simulating the individual and combined effects on isometric force of several known ageing-related adaptations. EFFECTIVENESS OF BASALT FIBRE-REINFORCED CEMENTITIOUS SYSTEMS IN CONFINING MASONRY MEMBERS: AN EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATION

2020

The use of composites based on fibre-reinforced polymers (FRPs) to strengthen masonry columns has become a common practice in the last decades. FRPs, however, exhibit some shortcomings when applied to masonry substrates, due to the organic nature of their matrix. For this reason, increasing attention is paid today to composites based on fibre-reinforced cementitious matrices (FRCMs), in which the polymeric matrix is replaced with an inorganic matrix (such as cementitious mortars). Cementitious matrices guarantee higher breathability and compatibility with the substrate, less sensitivity to debonding at the interfaces, and higher resistance to fire and high temperatures. Moreover, due to the…

Self-Complementary Dimers of Oxalamide-Functionalized Resorcinarene Tetrabenzoxazines

2018

Self‐complementarity is a useful concept in supramolecular chemistry, molecular biology and polymeric systems. Two resorcinarene tetrabenzoxazines decorated with four oxalamide groups were synthesized and characterized. The oxalamide groups possessed self‐complementary hydrogen bonding sites between the carbonyls and amide groups. The self‐complementary nature of the oxalamide groups resulted in self‐included dimeric assemblies. The hydrogen bonding interactions within the tetrabenzoxazines gave rise to the formation of dimers, which were confirmed by single‐crystal X‐ray diffractions analysis and supported by NMR spectroscopy and mass spectrometry. The self‐included dimers were connected b…

Failure Load and Collapse Mode of an RC Beam in a Large Collapsed Roof

2021

The present work focused on the determination of the collapse load and of the failure mode of a collapsed framed structure constructed in the South of Italy and failed in 2004 under its self-weight. Information available was the results on extensive experimental test campaign, for the determination of mechanical properties of concrete and steel bars of beams, floors and columns involved in the failure. Moreover, draws of original design with construction details and design rules valid in Italy at the time of construction were found. A simple monodimensional beam model for prediction of load-deflection curve, able to include degradation of constituent materials (concrete, steel and bond) was…

Isometric force-time parameters in monitoring of strength training : with special reference to acute responses to different loading resistances

2017

The aim of the present series of studies was to investigate acute neuromuscular responses to (1) different strength training loadings and using (2) different external resistances. In addition, chronic adaptations and dynamic performances were compared to (3) the changes in isometric force-time parameters at the group level, and to (4) the individual timing of the improvement in the rate of force development (RFD) due to hypertrophic or maximum strength followed by power strength training periods. The latter one was achieved by systematic, repeated monitoring. Sixty-nine physically active men (20-35 yrs), but not experienced in resistance training, took part in the present series of studies.…

A habit is a regularity in automatic responding to a specific situation. Classical learning psychology explains the emergence of habits by an extended learning history during which the response becomes associated to the situation (learning of stimulus-response associations) as a function of practice ("law of exercise") and/or reinforcement ("law of effect"). In this paper, we propose the "law of recency" as another route to habit acquisition that draws on episodic memory models of automatic response regulation. According to this account, habitual responding results from (a) storing stimulus-response episodes in memory, and (b) retrieving these episodes when encountering the stimulus again. …

Male Police Officers’ Law Enforcement Preferences In Cases of Intimate Partner Violence Versus Non-Intimate Interpersonal Violence

2014

This article explores male police officers’ law enforcement preferences across different scenarios of interpersonal violence, involving intimate (partner violence against women) and non-intimate relationships (between- and within-gender). The influence of police officers’ sexist attitudes and empathy on their law enforcement preferences was also analyzed within and across these scenarios. The sample consisted of 308 male police officers. Results showed that police officers prefer a stronger and unconditional law enforcement approach in cases of violence against women, both in intimate and non-intimate relationships. Benevolent sexism was linked to a preference for a more conditional law en…
