GENERALITY OF GRAPHIC VARIABLES ACROSS DRAWING TASKS
1968
Konttinen, R. & Olkinuora, E. Generality of graphic variables across drawing tasks. Scund. J. Psychol., 1968, 9, 161–168.—As a partial replication of the Takala & Rantanen (1964) study, the correlations between 6 graphic variables extracted from 6 drawing tasks differing in complexity were investigated. Four graphic trait factors were obtained I Size, II Pressure, III Discontinuous lines, and IV Angularity. Other graphic variables (nuancity and reinforcement) loaded factors II and III. The data lend support to the hypothesis that the same graphic traits should be interpreted in the same way irrespective of the complexity of the test. However, the complexity of the drawing task may make a di…
EXPLANATORY FACTORS OF MARKET POWER IN THE BANKING SYSTEM
2007
The aim of the study is to analyse the explanatory factors of market power in the banking system. Using as laboratory the Spanish banking system in the period 1986–2002, results show an increase of market power from the mid-1990s. Of the set of variables that the model posits as explaining market power, those with the greatest explanatory power are size, efficiency and specialization; concentration is not significant. This last result shows the limitations of the approaches, studies and decision-making rules of economic policy that uses market concentration as a proxy for the degree of competition.

Why do Norwegian nurses leave the public health service to practice CAM?
2009
Accepted version of an article published in Complementary Therapies in Clinical Practice, 15 (2009), 147-151 This paper explores a number of issues associated with the recent increase in nurses choosing to leave the Norwegian health care system in order to become independent practitioners of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM). The paper suggests that in Norway, nurses perceive medical hegemony continues to persist. Nurses perceive restrictions in their ability to develop their professional roles and status. CAM would appear to offer many nurses, the opportunity to develop their clinical skills in an autonomous, egalitarian and more holistic environment.
Two are not always better than one: ligand optimisation for long-living light-emitting electrochemical cells
2009
The complex [Ir(ppy)2(dpbpy)][PF6] (Hppy = 2-phenylpyridine, dpbpy = 6,6'-diphenyl-2,2'-bipyridine) has been prepared and evaluated as an electroluminescent component for light-emitting electrochemical cells (LECs); the complex exhibits two intramolecular face-to-face π-stacking interactions and long-lived LECs have been constructed; the device characteristics are not significantly improved in comparison to analogous LECs with 6-phenyl-2,2'-bipyridine. Experimental investigation on the effectiveness of basalt-fibre strengthening systems for confining masonry elements
Influence of drag and turbulence modelling on CFD predictions of solid liquid suspensions in stirred vessels
2014
Abstract Suspensions of solid particles into liquids within industrial stirred tanks are frequently carried out at an impeller speed lower than the minimum required for complete suspension conditions. This choice allows power savings which usually overcome the drawback of a smaller particle-liquid interfacial area. Despite this attractive economical perspective, only limited attention has been paid so far to the modelling of the partial suspension regime. In the present work two different baffled tanks stirred by Rushton turbines were simulated by employing the Eulerian-Eulerian Multi Fluid Model (MFM) along with either the Sliding Grid algorithm (transient simulations) or the Multiple Refe…
The molecular structure of N-hydroxyurea
1996
Ab initio calculations were performed on the tautomers and conformers of N-hydroxyurea using a 6-31G** basis set. The minimum-energy structures have been found and the importance of the intramolecular hydrogen bond as the stabilizing factor was pointed out. © 1996 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
The tandem Diels-Alder reaction between acetylenedicarboxyaldehyde and N,N'-dipyrrolylmethane. An ab initio study of the molecular mechanisms
1998
Abstract An extensive exploration at RHF/3-21G and RHF/6-31G ∗ levels of the potential energy surface for the tandem cycloaddition of acetylenedicarboxyaldehyde to N,N'-dipyrrolylmethane allows us to characterize the reaction pathways and the associated stationary points. The formation of the pincer and/or domino adducts can be described as a stepwise mechanism. The first step, associated with an intermolecular [4 + 2] cycloaddition, is the rate determining step and an azanorbornadiene intermediate is obtained. The second step is an intramolecular [4 + 2] cycloaddition. The formation of the pincer adduct is the step which kinetically controls the global process, due to the low barrier heigh…
Charge-density analysis of 1-nitroindoline: refinement quality using free R factors and restraints
2011
Nitramines and related N-nitro compounds have attracted significant attention owing to their use in rocket fuel and as explosives. The charge density of 1-nitroindoline was determined experimentally and from theoretical calculations. Electron-density refinements were performed using the multipolar atom formalism. In order to design the ideal restraint strategy for the charge-density parameters, R-free analyses were performed involving a series of comprehensive refinements. Different weights were applied to the charge-density restraints, namely the similarity between chemically equivalent atoms and local symmetry. Additionally, isotropic thermal motion and an anisotropic model calculated by …
