‘Where the F… is Vuotso?’ : heritage of Second World War forced movement and destruction in a Sámi reindeer herding community in Finnish Lapland
2017
In this paper we discuss the heritage of the WWII evacuation and the so-called ‘burning of Lapland’ within a Sámi reindeer herding community, and assess how these wartime experiences have moulded, and continue to mould, the ways people memorialise and engage with the WWII material remains. Our focus is on the village of Vuotso, which is home to the southernmost Sámi community in Finland. The Nazi German troops established a large military base there in 1941, and the Germans and the villagers lived as close neighbours for several years. In 1944 the villagers were evacuated before the outbreak of the Finno-German ‘Lapland War’ of 1944–1945, in which the German troops annihilated their militar…
Psychology and Management of the Workforce in Post-Stalinist Hungary
2019
Over recent years, there has been a growing academic interest in the history of psychological disciplines and mental health in the Soviet Union and eastern Europe. This article explores psychological sciences and social planning in post-Stalinist Hungary after 1956. The focus is on the psychology of work as a socially- and historically-situated discourse. The article demonstrates how psychologists started to promote their expertise to reform the practices of management and to “humanize” the conditions of work. They suggested practical remedies for everyday problems of worker motivation and social adjustment and introduced concepts from social psychology to improve the state of interpersonal…
La frontera como tragicomedia: “no puedo come in” si no está “open the door”
2016
Nondiverging vortex pinning barriers at low current densities across the putative elastic vortex-glass–vortex-liquid transition inYBa2Cu3O7−δfilms
2001
A detailed analysis of the electric field--current density $(E\ensuremath{-}J)$ characteristics of ${\mathrm{YBa}}_{2}{\mathrm{Cu}}_{3}{\mathrm{O}}_{7\ensuremath{-}\ensuremath{\delta}}$ films across the putative thermally induced elastic vortex-glass--vortex-liquid transition predicted by the $E(J)$ curve scaling reveals that the expected increase of the collective pinning barriers with decreasing J is cut off in the low-$J$ region, signaling a dissipation process which involves the plastic deformation of the vortex system. The temperature and magnetic field dependence of the pinning barriers at low J does not change across the scaling-predicted glass transition line. For the investigated m…
The Modern Strategies in the Cyber Warfare
2018
As there is no generally accepted definition for cyber warfare, it is a term that is quite liberally used in describing events and actions in the digital cyber world. The concept of cyber warfare became extremely popular from 2008 to 2010, partly superseding the previously used concept of information warfare which was launched in the 1990s. For some, cyber warfare is war that is conducted in the virtual domain. For others, it is a counterpart to conventional “kinetic” warfare. According to the OECD’s 2001 report, cyberwar military doctrines resemble those of so-called conventional war: retaliation and deterrence. Researchers agree with the notion that the definition of cyberwar should addre…
Gold(I)-Catalyzed Intermolecular Cycloaddition of Allenamides with α,β-Unsaturated Hydrazones: Efficient Access to Highly Substituted Cyclobutanes
2014
α,β-Unsaturated N,N-dialkyl hydrazones undergo a mild [2 + 2] cycloaddition to allenamides when treated with a suitable gold catalyst. The method, which represents the first application of N,N-dialkyl hydrazones in gold catalysis, is compatible with a wide variety of substituents at the alkenyl moiety of the hydrazone component, proceeds with excellent levels of regio- and diastereoselectivity, and provides densely substituted cyclobutanes with good to excellent yields.
Enantio- and Diastereocontrol in Intermolecular Cyclopropanation Reaction of Styrene Catalyzed by Dirhodium(II) Complexes with Bulky ortho-Metalated …
2006
Enantiomerically pure dirhodium(II) complexes with ortho-metalated para-substituted aryl phosphines have been shown to lead to an enantio- and diastereoselective cyclopropanation of styrene with ethyl diazoacetate. Enantioselectivities up to 91% and diastereoselectivities up to 90% are observed for ethyl cis-2-phenylcyclopropanecarboxylate. High enantio- and diastereoselectivities are observed for the synthesis of ethyl cis-2-phenylcyclopropanecarboxylate using water as solvent. Additionally, a (+)-nonlinear effect, (+)-NLE, has been observed and studied in the asymmetric catalytic reaction developed in n-pentane.
Synthesis, reactions and structural features of monofluorinated cyclopropanecarboxylates
2002
Abstract Monofluorinated cyclopropanecarboxylates are available in racemic or optically active form by transition metal-catalyzed reactions of vinylfluorides with diazoacetates. From α-fluorostyrene and tert-butyl diazoacetate in the presence of 2 mol% of an enantiopure bis(oxazoline) copper complex, a 81:19 mixture of tert-butyl trans- and cis-2-fluoro-2-phenylcyclopropanecarboxylates was obtained with high enantiomeric excess (ee) of 93 or 89%, respectively. The corresponding racemic ethylesters were used as starting materials for the synthesis of carboxamides, of the cis- and trans-isomers of analogues of tranylcypromine, an anti-depressive drug and several of its homologous fluorinated …
Unprecedented Stereoselective Synthesis of Catalytically Active Chiral Mo3CuS4 Clusters
2005
Cluster excision of polymeric {Mo3S7Cl4}n phases with chiral phosphane (+)-1,2-bis[(2R,5R)-2,5-(dimethylphospholan-1-yl)]ethane ((R,R)-Me-BPE) or with its enantiomer ((S,S)-Me-BPE) yields the stereoselective formation of the trinuclear cluster complexes [Mo3S4{(R,R)-Me-BPE}3Cl3]+ ([(P)-1]+) and [Mo3S4{(S,S)-Me-BPE}3Cl3]+ ([(M)-1]+), respectively. These complexes possess an incomplete cuboidal structure with the metal atoms defining an equilateral triangle and one capping and three bridging sulfur atoms. The P and M symbols refer to the rotation of the chlorine atoms around the C3 axis, with the capping sulphur atom pointing towards the viewer. Incorporation of copper into these trinuclear c…
