Effects of Saline and Deficit Irrigation on Soil-Plant Water Status and Potato Crop Yield under the Semiarid Climate of Tunisia

2019

Water supplies have been decreasing in several semi-arid regions, and it is therefore necessary to adopt irrigation strategies aimed at maximizing water use efficiency. In this paper, the effects of saline and deficit irrigation on water use efficiency and on potato crop response, based on observations of soil and plant water status, were investigated. Experiments were carried out in Central Tunisia, by monitoring potato crop growth during two seasons in four distinct treatments (T1&ndash

Interaspecific chemical variability and highlighting of chemotypes of leaf essential oils from Ravensara aromatica Sonnerat, a tree endemic to Madaga…

2006

Ravensara aromatica Sonnerat is a tree endemic to Madagascar. The essential oil extracted from the leaves is used in aromatherapy. Previous chemical studies have generated some confusion with regard to the chemical composition of this essential oil. In order to eliminate this uncertainty, we undertook a systematic evaluation of the chemical composition of essential oils from leaves of this species. The study focused on 28 individual samples formally identified as R. aromatica. The essential oils were obtained by hydrodistillation and analysed by GC and GC–MS. It was possible to distinguish four groups of trees through principal components analysis and agglomerative hierarchical clustering a…

Retrieval of Forest Water Potential from L-Band Vegetation Optical Depth

2021

A retrieval methodology for forest water potential from ground-based L-band radiometry is proposed. It contains the estimation of the gravimetric and the relative water content of a forest stand and tests in situ- and model-based functions to transform these estimates into forest water potential. The retrieval is based on vegetation optical depth data from a tower-based experiment of the SMAPVEX 19–21 campaign for the period from April to October 2019 at Harvard Forest, MA, USA. In addition, comparison and validation with in situ measurements on leaf and xylem water potential as well as on leaf wetness and complex permittivity are foreseen to understand limitations and potentials of the pro…

Large Scale Knowledge Matching with Balanced Efficiency-Effectiveness Using LSH Forest

2017

Evolving Knowledge Ecosystems were proposed to approach the Big Data challenge, following the hypothesis that knowledge evolves in a way similar to biological systems. Therefore, the inner working of the knowledge ecosystem can be spotted from natural evolution. An evolving knowledge ecosystem consists of Knowledge Organisms, which form a representation of the knowledge, and the environment in which they reside. The environment consists of contexts, which are composed of so-called knowledge tokens. These tokens are ontological fragments extracted from information tokens, in turn, which originate from the streams of information flowing into the ecosystem. In this article we investigate the u…

A comparison of ensemble algorithms for item-weighted Label Ranking

2023

Label Ranking (LR) is a non-standard supervised classification method with the aim of ranking a finite collection of labels according to a set of predictor variables. Traditional LR models assume indifference among alternatives. However, misassigning the ranking position of a highly relevant label is frequently regarded as more severe than failing to predict a trivial label. Moreover, switching two similar alternatives should be considered less severe than switching two different ones. Therefore, efficient LR classifiers should be able to take into account the similarities and individual weights of the items to be ranked. The contribution of this paper is to formulate and compare flexible i…
