The discussed paper deals with the quite interesting topic of design and management of subsurface drip irrigation (SDI), with the aim to identify the appropriate depth at which to install driplines to avoid wetting the soil surface. The study proposes the results of simulations, obtained with the well-known HYDRUS 2D/3D model version 2.x, and considering three different irrigation management strategies applied on alfalfa crop cultivated in two different soil types in Holtville, California.

Multiple-diameter laterals and manifolds reduce the total cost in microirrigation systems, however, the length of each sublateral should be determined carefully to assure appropriate performance and uniformity of emitter flow rates. The most accurate method is numerical trial and error, which is time-consuming. Many research efforts have been made to propose simple analytical design procedures. Nel lavoro vengono riportati i risultati di una campagna di misure condotte in 2 corsi d’acqua calabresi interessati da interventi di sistemazione con briglie. L’obiettivo dell’indagine è servito a verificare la validità dell’approccio, basato sul concetto di moto incipiente, che consente di ottenere il valore della pendenza longitudinale stabile mediante il ricorso alla simulazione fisica del processo di armouring statico. Modeling of rainfall statistical structure represents an important research area in hydrology, meteorology, atmospheric physics and climatology, because of the several theoretical and practical implications.
