Surface emissivity retrieval from Digital Airborne Imaging Spectrometer data

[1] A study has been carried out on the most recent algorithms for the estimation of land surface emissivity (e) using high-resolution data (Digital Airborne Imaging Spectrometer, DAIS) over the Rhine Valley (France) and Castilla La Mancha (Spain). Three published methods have been applied for extracting absolute spectral emissivity information from images recorded during the DAISEX experiment in 1999. They are NDVI Thresholds Method (NDVITHM), Normalized Emissivity Method (NEM) and Temperature/Emissivity Separation (TES). Impact of Land Cover Change Induced by a Fire Event on the Surface Energy Fluxes Derived from Remote Sensing

Forest fires affect the natural cycle of the vegetation, and the structure and functioning of ecosystems. As a consequence of defoliation and vegetation mortality, surface energy flux patterns can suffer variations. Remote sensing techniques together with surface energy balance modeling offer the opportunity to explore these changes. In this paper we focus on a Mediterranean forest ecosystem. A fire event occurred in 2001 in Almodovar del Pinar (Spain) affecting a pine and shrub area. Backcasting for desirable futures in Finnish forest-based firms

Purpose In Finland, new forest-based sector (FBS) businesses are seen as important for the transition to the circular bioeconomy. The purpose of this study is to explore the transition of Finnish FBS companies to new business models. The aim is to understand how FBS companies define their ideal future states and related business models for the year 2030. The Role of Fire in Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations do not mention Fire as a key factor in achieving an environmentally-friendly human society. This paper reviews the key aspects of the impact of fire that make it necessary to update the SDGs. Upon reviewing the scientific literature, it was found that fire has been part of the Earth System for the last 400 million years, and that it is part of biogeochemical cycles.
