Materiały do brioflory rezerwatu przyrody Boczki (Puszcza Romincka)
2017
The results of bryological investigations from the “Boczki” nature reserve, located in Puszcza Romincka Forest, are presented. The reserve was established in 1974 for protection well preserved forest communities characteristic of the Romincka Primeval Forest. 154 bryophyte species were recorded – 37 liverworts and 117 mosses, including 37 unpublished species from the Puszcza Romincka Forest. In respect of frequency the main group make rare species – 29.2%, the least numerous were frequent – 21.4%. Terrestrial and epixylic habitats were the richest – refer 98 and 85 species respectively. Significant were groups of protected (47) and endangered (14) species. There is also a large share of bry…
Viscario vulgaris-Quercetum petraeae Stöcker (1965) in the Opawskie Mts (Eastern Sudetes)
2015
Abstract Results of phytosociological studies conducted in the southern part of Opole Silesia within the Sudetes mountain range in 2014-2015 are presented. The main aim of our research was to confirm the occurrence of Viscario vulgaris-Quercetum petraeae Stöcker 1965, which had previously been noted in Poland only within the Central Sudetes Foothills in Lower Silesia province. Two additional sites of this extremely rare in Poland plant association were confirmed, located within the Opawskie Mts in Opole province. The association develops on steep slopes, near rocky outcrops, on southern or western expositions at altitudes between 350 and 410 m a.s.l. All plots of the association consists of…
Mapping a-priori defined plant associations using remotely sensed vegetation characteristics
2014
Abstract Incorporation of a priori defined plant associations into remote sensing products is a major challenge that has only recently been confronted by the remote sensing community. We present an approach to map the spatial distribution of such associations by using plant indicator values (IVs) for salinity, moisture and nutrients as an intermediate between spectral reflectance and association occurrences. For a 12 km 2 study site in the Netherlands, the relations between observed IVs at local vegetation plots and visible and near-infrared (VNIR) and short-wave infrared (SWIR) airborne reflectance data were modelled using Gaussian Process Regression (GPR) (R 2 0.73, 0.64 and 0.76 for sali…
Proanthocyanidins and Where to Find Them: A Meta-Analytic Approach to Investigate Their Chemistry, Biosynthesis, Distribution, and Effect on Human He…
2021
Proanthocyanidins (PACs) are a class of polyphenolic compounds that are attracting considerable interest in the nutraceutical field due to their potential health benefits. However, knowledge about the chemistry, biosynthesis, and distribution of PACs is limited. This review summarizes the main chemical characteristics and biosynthetic pathways and the main analytical methods aimed at their identification and quantification in raw plant matrices. Furthermore, meta-analytic approaches were used to identify the main plant sources in which PACs were contained and to investigate their potential effect on human health. In particular, a cluster analysis identified PACs in 35 different plant famili…
Mycotoxins and their consequences in aquaculture: A review
2016
Fish consumption has been increasing worldwide, mainly due to the availability, access and price in relation to other kinds of meat consumption, such as beef, pork, and poultry. Consequently, some concerns begin to emerge, primarily regarding the quality of fish available in the market. Residues could be present in any product of animal origin causing economic losses and putting into a risk human and animal health. Food contamination by mycotoxins is a risk to human and animal health, and it is responsible for significant economic losses. It's very difficult to prove that a disease is a mycotoxicosis, and even when mycotoxins are detected, it is not easy to show that they are the etiologica…
Biotic homogenization of forest bird communities under human influence
2018
Human actions impact biodiversity worldwide. Specialist species are particularly sensitive to environmental degradation whereas generalists may even benefit from habitat changes. As a consequence, specialists are declining while generalists are increasing and, therefore, communities become more similar. This phenomenon is known as biotic homogenization. In boreal forests logging and forest management is the most important factor changing the native habitat. In this thesis I studied if human actions are homogenizing boreal forest bird communities. I further studied if protected areas can maintain their diversity and, thus, prevent homogenization. Through the individual studies, biodiversity …
On the use of unmanned aerial systems for environmental monitoring
2018
[EN] Environmental monitoring plays a central role in diagnosing climate and management impacts on natural and agricultural systems; enhancing the understanding of hydrological processes; optimizing the allocation and distribution of water resources; and assessing, forecasting, and even preventing natural disasters. Nowadays, most monitoring and data collection systems are based upon a combination of ground-based measurements, manned airborne sensors, and satellite observations. These data are utilized in describing both small-and large-scale processes, but have spatiotemporal constraints inherent to each respective collection system. Bridging the unique spatial and temporal divides that li…

UN NUOVO MODELLO PER LA STIMA DELL’ERODIBILITÀ RILL
2015
