Detection of DNA effects in human cells with the comet assay and their relevance for mutagenesis

The single cell gel test (SCG-test or comet assay) is a rapid and sensitive method for measuring DNA damage and repair in individual cells. A wide variety of mutagens have been shown to cause DNA alterations detectable with the comet assay, but it is not yet clear whether a relationship exists between the DNA effects and the induction of mutations. We are therefore investigating in a cell culture system with human cells (MRC5CV1) the induction of DNA damage by environmental mutagens and the formation of mutations at the HPRT gene. This Roadmap article on three-dimensional integral imaging provides an overview of some of the research activities in the field of integral imaging. The article discusses various aspects of the field including sensing of 3D scenes, processing of captured information, and 3D display and visualization of information. The paper consists of a series of 15 sections from the experts presenting various aspects of the field on sensing, processing, displays, augmented reality, microscopy, object recognition, and other applications. AbstractIn total, 90 gelatinous spheres, averaging one meter in diameter, have been recorded from ~ 1985 to 2019 from the NE Atlantic Ocean, including the Mediterranean Sea, using citizen science. More than 50% had a dark streak through center. They were recorded from the surface to ~ 60–70 m depth, mainly neutrally buoyant, in temperatures between 8 and 24°C. Lack of tissue samples has until now, prohibited confirmation of species. However, in 2019 scuba divers secured four tissue samples from the Norwegian coast. Pētījuma mērķis: Izpētīt alternatīvas mašīntulkošanas arhitektūras, pielietojot jaunas pieejas, lai izveidotu angļu-latviešu tulkotāju un apvienot attēlu ar teikumu matricu vienā modelī. Nozīmīgākie rezultāti: Darba ietvaros tika uztrēnēti dažādi mašīntulkotāji. Viens balstās uz «transformer» arhitektūru. Šis modeļis uztrenēts pilnīgi no jauna. Otrs mašīntulkotājs balstās uz pretrenētiem modeliem. Darbā tika salīdzinātas dažādas pieejas un tika izvēlēts labākais pretrenēts modelis XLM-R, uz kura bāzes izveidots tulkotājs. On the design of a high current power supply for superconducting magnet

The purpose of the article is the description, considerations of design and presentation of experimental results of a high current (1000 A) and low voltage (up to 15 V) converter for the excitement of superconducting corrector magnets in particle accelerators. The power source, which is based on a ZVT converter, presents high efficiency, small output ripple, excellent regulation of line, and fulfilment of the EMC normative (VDE 0871 A).
Isolation and characterization of Vibrio parahaemolyticus causing infection in Iberian toothcarp Aphanius iberus

High mortality among laboratory cultured Iberian toothcarp Aphanius iberus occurred in February 1997 in Valencia (Spain). The main signs of the disease were external haemorrhage and tail rot. Bacteria isolated from internal organs of infected fish were biochemically homogeneous and identified as Vibrio parahaemolyticus. The bacteria were haemolytic against erythrocytes from eel Anguilla anguilla, amberjack Seriola dumerili, toothcarp A. iberus and humans, and were Kanagawa-phenomenon-negative. Infectivity tests showed that the virulence for A. iberus was dependent on salinity. Finally, all strains were virulent for amberjack and eel.

The indexes created by Web search engines serve as metadata about the content of Web documents. The essay gives a sharp outline of the recent Italian law ruling body donation to science after death, as a personal choice exclusively founds on a conscious and free act of will.
