Asymptotic mean value formulas for parabolic nonlinear equations
2021
In this paper we characterize viscosity solutions to nonlinear parabolic equations (including parabolic Monge–Ampère equations) by asymptotic mean value formulas. Our asymptotic mean value formulas can be interpreted from a probabilistic point of view in terms of dynamic programming principles for certain two-player, zero-sum games. peerReviewed
Asymptotic Mean-Value Formulas for Solutions of General Second-Order Elliptic Equations
2022
Abstract We obtain asymptotic mean-value formulas for solutions of second-order elliptic equations. Our approach is very flexible and allows us to consider several families of operators obtained as an infimum, a supremum, or a combination of both infimum and supremum, of linear operators. The families of equations that we consider include well-known operators such as Pucci, Issacs, and k-Hessian operators.
Distinctive Lexical Patterns in Russian Patient Information Leaflets: A Corpus-Driven Study
2019
This methodologically-oriented corpus-driven study focuses on distinctive patterns of language use in a specialized text type, namely Russian patient information leaflets. The study’s main goal is to identify keywords and recurrent sequences of words that account for the leaflets’ formulaicity, and - as a secondary goal - to describe their discoursal functions. The keywords were identified using three methods (G2, Hedges’ g and Neozeta) and the overlap between the three metrics was explored. The overlapping keywords were qualitatively analyzed in terms of discoursal functions. As for the distinctive multi-word patterns, we focused on recurrent n-grams with the largest coverage in the corpus…

Following the money? : Performance based funding and the changing publication patterns of Finnish academics
2020
Research on how performance-based funding influences the behaviour and performance of academics is limited in Europe. In this study, we investigate the changing publication patterns among Finnish academics associated with the introduction of awarding funding for publications within specific journals in the national performance-based funding model. We find evidence, particularly in the social sciences, and to a lesser extent humanities, that Finnish academics increasingly target international (English-language) publication outlets and lower-tiered journals. We conclude discussing the possible long-term implications of the current funding formula for both Finnish academia and society. peerRev…
Ricerche sulla 'praescriptio'
2008
Scientific writing for impact factor journals
2013
EASARCICAPLivre dispo. dans :hal-00832739, version 1; Publish or Perish. This old adage illustrates the importance of scientific communication; essential to research, it also represents a strategic sector for each country’s competitiveness. An often-neglected topic, scientific communication is of vital importance, with new information technologies accelerating and profoundly changing how knowledge is disseminated. The necessity of optimally disseminating experts’ findings has also become crucial to researchers, institutes and universities alike, which has prompted the recent advent of Impact Factors for the evaluation and financing of research, the goal being for scientific knowledge to be …
Safety and Tolerance Evaluation of Milk Fat Globule Membrane-Enriched Infant Formulas: A Randomized Controlled Multicenter Non-Inferiority Trial in H…
2014
ObjectiveThis multicenter non-inferiority study evaluated the safety of infant formulas enriched with bovine milk fat globule membrane (MFGM) fractions.MethodsHealthy, full-term infants ( n = 119) age ≤14 days were randomized to standard infant formula (control), standard formula enriched with a lipid-rich MFGM fraction (MFGM-L), or standard formula enriched with a protein-rich MFGM fraction (MFGM-P). Primary outcome was mean weight gain per day from enrollment to age 4 months (non-inferiority margin: –3.0 g/day). Secondary (length, head circumference, tolerability, morbidity, adverse events) and exploratory (phospholipids, metabolic markers, immune markers) outcomes were also evaluated.Res…
Sormitusformulat Pat Methenyn improvisaatiotyylissä
2011
Tutkimus käsitteli Pat Methenyn improvisointityyliä. Työssä tarkasteltiin improvisoituja melodioita, joiden parissa jazz-muusikoiden yleisesti käyttämän sointu-skaala -teorian selitysvoima voidaan kyseenalaistaa. Methenyn improvisaatioissa esiintyy paljon tämän kaltaisia melodioita. Tutkimuksen taustahypoteesin mukaan Metheny rakentaa melodialinjojaan ainakin jossain määrin soittimen rakenteen ja soittotekniikan ehdoilla. Tutkimuksessa selvitettiin, millaisia sormitusformuloita Methenyn soitossa esiintyy ja miten hän käyttää niitä pidempien melodioiden luomisessa. Teoreettisena taustana käytettiin skemaattisen sormituksen käsitettä, formula-teoriaa sekä jazz-musiikin pedagogista kirjallisuu…
