Väitöstyössään Marjo-Riitta Reinikainen tutkii kriittisellä otteella tavanomaista arkista puhetta vammaisuudesta. Huomion kohteena ovat vammaisuudelle ja vammaisena olemiselle teksteissä annetut merkitykset, erityisesti näiden sukupuolittuneet sekä vammaisten sortoa ja syrjintää tuottavat ja ylläpitävät muodot. The problem I discuss is whether the behaviors which are the product of the exercise of disciplinary power may be characterized as “normative”, and if so in what sense of the word “normative”. Disciplinary power is, I will say, the “inscription of norms” in the body of those who are subject to it. I distinguish two ways (“indirect” and “direct” inscription) in which norms may be inscribed, through the exercise of disciplinary power, in the body of the subjects, which I dub, respectively, “automatic execution (of norms)” and “normative automatisms”. Michel Foucault (1926-1984) is not really known as a thinker of music, or more generally, as a thinker of the voice, of the sound, of audition and listening. Often, one comes up with the portrait of Foucault as a visualist of some sort, one who either was not interested in the other sensory modalities, or at least, did not have much, if anything, to say about them. However, in this study I attempt to argue against this portrait. When did biopolitics begin? : Actuality and potentiality in historical events

The article addresses the ongoing debate about the origins of biopolitics. While Foucault’s analysis of biopolitics approached it as a modern rationality of government, Agamben’s Homo Sacer series presented biopolitics as having a longer provenance, dating back to the antiquity. These polar positions are not mutually exclusive but coexist in these and other theories of biopolitics, which approach its object as both modern and ancient, having its chronological origin in the eighteenth to nineteenth centuries yet also possessing a prehistory of precursors. In questo articolo rispondo alle critiche e ai commenti alla mia ricostruzione della concezione del potere di Michel Foucault proposti da Bruno Celano, José Juan Moreso, Marco Segatti, Alessandro Spena. Mi concentro in particolare sui seguenti aspetti: la connessione fra la nozione foucaultiana di potere e il conflitto; la distinzione fra potere disciplinare, potere governamentale, e potere normativo; la concezione foucaultiana della libertà come autorialità; ciò che Foucault può suggerire riguardo ad alcune “macchie cieche” della teoria del diritto contemporanea.

Suomalaisen kasvatustieteen omaa historiakäsitystä sävyttää usein raskas huoli. Vaikka kasvatustiede on toisen maailmansodan jälkeisinä vuosikymmeninä onnistunut saavuttamaan vakaan aseman soveltavana tieteenalana, sen on samalla nähty kadottaneen näköpiiristään sivistystä ja hyvää elämää koskevat kysymykset. Tämän tuloksena se on tuottanut kulttuurisista ja historiallisista viitekehyksistä vieraantunutta tietoa kasvusta ja oppimisesta. Tällä on katsottu olevan seurauksia, jotka ulottuvat uhkakuvina myös nykypäivään.
