Fragility Fractures of the Pelvis.

Fragility fractures of the pelvic ring (FFP) show an increasing frequency. Trauma mechanism, fracture morphology and degree of instability are different from those in high-energy pelvic ring lesions. Little is known about the optimal treatment strategy. A new comprehensive classification system with four categories of increasing instability is presented. It is connected with recommendations for type and invasiveness of treatment. FFP Type I are anterior instabilities only and can be treated conservatively. Locking plates for corrective osteotomy of malunited dorsally tilted distal radial fractures: a biomechanical study.

The purpose of the study was to compare the biomechanical properties of five different palmar fixation plate designs in a distal radius osteotomy cadaver model. A 1 cm metaphyseal osteotomy gap was made to simulate a corrective osteotomy and the osteotomy plated. Axial load was applied to the distal end of each construct by a material testing machine under control of a motion analysis video system. Number and Locations of Screw Fixation for Volar Fixed-Angle Plating of Distal Radius Fractures: Biomechanical Study

Purpose To compare the biomechanical properties of different numbers and locations of screws in a multidirectional volar fixed-angle plate in a distal radius osteotomy cadaver model. Methods We created an extra-articular fracture in 16 pairs of fresh-frozen human cadaver radiuses. The 32 specimens were randomized into 4 groups. Is there a role for percutaneous pelvic and acetabular reconstruction?

The primary goal in the treatment of pelvic fractures is the restoration of haemodynamic stability. The secondary goal is the reconstruction of stability and symmetry of the pelvic ring. Percutaneous reconstruction can only be accepted if these goals are met. The type of definitive surgery is dependent of the degree of instability of the anterior and posterior pelvic ring. Secondary Osseous Integration of Cementless Unicompartmental Knee Arthroplasty After Internal Fixation of a Felix Type IIIB Fracture

Case A 76-year-old man presented with periprosthetic tibial plateau fracture (TPF), with a completely loosened tibial component 3 weeks after cementless unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (UKA). Internal fixation by buttress plating was performed, and the tibial component was retained and left in situ primarily as a spacer. Revision was planned after fracture consolidation, but at 3 months, the patient was able to walk without support, without pain, and with full range of motion. At 1 year, he is free of complaints. The Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC) is a patient-reported outcome measure (PROM) that is widely used to evaluate the pain, stiffness, and physical function of patients with osteoarthritis of the hip and knee. Although the WOMAC has also been used for patients after foot and ankle surgery, it has not been validated for this purpose.
