Characterization and Error Compensation of a Rogowski Coil in the Presence of Harmonics
2011
This paper reports the results of an experimental study dealing with a commercial Rogowski coil current transducer (RCCT) in the presence of harmonic distortion. The RCCT was observed under two conditions: 1) sinusoidal excitation with frequencies from 50 to 750 Hz and 2) nonsinusoidal excitation using fundamental frequency and one harmonic, with adjustable amplitude and phase shift. The experimental results show only a weak dependence of the harmonic current ratio error and phase displacement on the amplitude and phase shift of the excitation harmonic. The phase displacement is also independent of the conductor position within the Rogowski coil window. An error compensation method, based o…
Harmonic reduction in CHB 13-level inverters by PAM fundamental-frequency strategy
2019
In this paper cascaded H-bridges (CHB) 13-level inverters are considered and a particular pulse amplitude modulation (PAM) strategy is introduced to mitigate or eliminate many harmonic components on the output voltage, in order to obtain low Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) factor. This procedure defines different dc voltage sources and sets of six switching angles, depending on an integer parameter $q$ belonging to the close interval $I=[11, 15]$ . The obtained THD doesn't depend on modulation index $m$ . The control of $m$ is made by changing the dc voltage sources that depend linearly on m, while the switching angles remain constant. An investigation about the role of the $q$ parameter on…
The impact from survey depth and resolution on the morphological classification of galaxies
2015
We consistently analyse for the first time the impact of survey depth and spatial resolution on the most used morphological parameters for classifying galaxies through non-parametric methods: Abraham and Conselice-Bershady concentration indices, Gini, M20moment of light, asymmetry, and smoothness. Three different non-local data sets are used, Advanced Large Homogeneous Area Medium Band Redshift Astronomical (ALHAMBRA) and Subaru/XMMNewton Deep Survey (SXDS, examples of deep ground-based surveys), and Cosmos Evolution Survey (COSMOS, deep space-based survey). We used a sample of 3000 local, visually classified galaxies, measuring their morphological parameters at their real redshifts (z ~ 0)…
Thermodynamic pressure in nonlinear nonequilibrium thermodynamics of dilute nonviscous gases.
2000
In this paper, using extended thermodynamics, we build up a nonlinear theory for a dilute nonviscous gas under heat flux. The fundamental fields are the density, the velocity, the internal energy density, and the heat flux. The constitutive theory is builtup without approximations. We single out the nonlinear complete expressions of the Gibbs equation and of the nonequilibrium pressure. In particular, we determine the complete expressions furnished by the theory for the nonequilibrium pressure tensor and thermodynamic pressure, i.e., the derivative of the nonequilibrium internal specific entropy with respect to the specific volume, times the nonequilibrium temperature. In a second-order app…
Mass and Gravity
2014
The book starts with a survey on the development of the concept ‘mass’ and of theories of gravity, beginning with Greek’s ideas on mass, Galileo’s experiments, Newton’s laws and their extension by Einstein’s theory of relativity. Data from measurements of the gravitational force on Sun, planets and the Moon are presented. Kepler’s laws on moving masses in the gravitational field are discussed as well as new discoveries on the expansion of the universe. Fundamental interactions of particles and particle/wave duality are described. The Theory of Everything is mentioned. The definition of the international unit of mass is reported as well as alternatives like watt or voltage balance, counting …
OS ECJ-TF 4/2017 on the Decision of the Court of Justice of the European Union of 9 February 2017 in X (Case C-283/15) ('Pro-Rata Personal Deductions…
2018
This article deals with the decision taken by the Court of Justice of the European Union in X (Case C-283/15), on 9 February 2017. In general terms, the Court followed the Opinion of Advocate General Wathelet of 7 September 2016. The case concerned tax legislation permitting the deduction of "negative income" relating to a dwelling. The issue was whether the fundamental freedoms must be interpreted as precluding a Member State from refusing the benefit of that deduction in respect of a self-employed non-resident in circumstances in which that person receives 60% of his total income within that Member State, and 40% within a non-Member State. Therefore, he does not receive income that enable…
The State Power and the Limits of the Principle of Sovereignty: An Historical Approach
2012
This chapter explores the notion of sovereignty and the limits of state power in the framework of criminal justice. It is not an easy enterprise to counter terrorism while respecting the rule of law and guaranteeing the security of citizens to the maximum extent possible without violating their fundamental rights. Theoretically, modern constitutionalism emerged to protect citizens from political abuses of power. In practice, however, fundamental rights are not always fully respected since the state is often tempted to exercise its power beyond legal boundaries. To limit the power of the state means to limit its sovereignty. Otherwise, the abuses of power by the state become inevitable. Surp…

The Making and Unmaking of Precarity : Some Concluding Remarks
2015
We live in societies in which the making and unmaking of precarity has a structuring power. In the labour market, precarity is created through laws and practices that reduce protections and benefits; but the labour market itself is also the place where precarity can be unmade through (at least partial) de-commodification and re-regulation. Precarity also penetrates people’s lives and mechanisms of identification, with practices of producing stigma but also of resisting it. Not by chance, the making and unmaking of precarity has become a central focus for contentious politics through the definition of the new subject of the precariat, and the struggles against precarity as a stripping of fun…
Decisiones automatizadas: problemas y soluciones jurídicas. Más allá de la protección de datos
2021
